LG Watch contacts not making contact

I have had my LG Smartwatch for almost two years now and when I place the watch on the charger dock it often fails to charge. The gold contacts on the watch have eroded and now are more silver than gold. Seem to remember reading this was a fault with the watch.
Whats the best fix for this issue?

I rub my fingers over the contacts before putting mine on the charger. I have used a pencil eraser to clean them when that doesn't work.
