LG3 Tmobile and the Lollipop update

It has been terrible.

1. Email syncs 24/7 instead of abiding by the specific schedule (out of office hours) I have set, which worked fine before the update. This causes Thunderbird on my workstation to show all my mail as read so I end up overlooking new email.

2.Email freezes if I uses it to check all three accounts too much. I have to restart the phone.

3. WiFi shuts off when I when the screen shuts off. There is a setting to prevent that and that setting has been set to prevent that since before the update. Worked fine before, but now its a PITA. I like to stream Pandora and MLB AtBat when I work, as my workstation doesn't have speakers.

4. This may be related to 3, but text messages and email fail to send, because "I dont' have internet access" even though I'm connected to the same WiFi on a laptop that does have internet access and the hotspot is only 4 feet from the phone with only a keyboard and mouse between them.

It seems like Lollipop is ignoring some of the settings.

from what ur saying is u didnt do the reset after the update ?

After update I didn't do a factory reset, all is fine with my device. Those having a problem may check for old outdated app that may be causing issues post lollipop. If app hasn't been updated since lollipop it could be causing a problem.

I have the MMS issue. I only receive about 1 out of every 3 messages when in a group message so it's basically unusable. The others just stay in an unable to download cycle. I factory reset my phone and received a new SIM card from a rep at a T-Mobile store but nothing has helped. Tech support said they have seen issues with the G3 update and asked me to turn off VoLTE as a test. I just did it this morning but I haven't had any group messages yet. Hopefully this fixes it until they get a new build out.

Update:

After one day with VoLTE turned off the MMS issues have been better. I didn't completely miss any but I did have one that came through about 3 hours late.

Folks. Factory Data reset after any major upgrade! You must use the 'alternate' version of Hard Reset:

To perform a master reset using the hardware keys, follow these steps:

1. *Back up all data on the internal memory*.
2. Turn off the device.
3. Press and hold the Power and Volume down keys on the back of the device.
4. When the LG logo appears, release and then re-hold the Power key while continuing to hold the Volume down key.

Don't yell at your carriers. MIcrosoft PC's get bogged eventually, where a restore will clear things up. No reason why phone's aren't the same!

So finally got around to factory reset. So far, so good. Much snappier. LG Backup worked, tho I had to attempt to create the backup file 4 or 5 times before it actually completed.

Glad to hear the backup/restore worked and working so far. Did you backup to the microSD or the cloud? For some reason I've had problems with the cloud backup so opted to use the microSD.

I did have issues with the cloud. Have been having SD card issues so baked up to internal storage and moved to PC before reset. Tho even that took a couple of tries.

I also suggest "lock backup files" radio button checked...LG Backup.

Anyone know whether I can back up a phone on 5.0 using the LG Backup tool, then use that file to restore a phone on 4.4? T-Mobile is sending a new G3 which I intend to keep on KitKat for at least a while. Thanks.

According to T-Mobile website in the support pages T-Mobile has announced that: "Between June 10 and July 17, 2015 the LG G3 will receive notification of a software update to Lollipop, Android 5.0.1/ Software D85120e..." The Lollipop update is available to some phones via OTA and to others via update software from computer.

That's not entirely helpful. I wish they'd consistently roll out the update OTA, and not do something this piecemeal. At least I don't have to wait to hear from them as I did with my Nokia. Still... I suppose I'll have to go through the hassle of update by PC... I hope it isn't too painful?

Hey just wanted to tell you that I was able to update it to the lollipop on my LG g3 T-mobile last night by going to the Google app that says systems framework hitting that clearing the data and then hit forced stop. Had to do it twice and then went into updates about phone and there it was,it started the update as soon as I get it and they say your phone has to be fully charged mine was it 59 percent for those in a hurry so at least it's friggin here happy fathers day

I have had the original update running fone for a while. Last night I got an update notification. Is this going to take me from 5.0 to 5.1?

Well... looks like I got lucky. Snagged 5.0.1 over the air. It was my first experience with updating the OS, and I have to say. A bit less jarring than Windows Phone 8.

No. The OTA update is still just Lollipop 5.0.1

T-Mobile had pulled the original update to fix issues with WiFi calling. This is that update.

I've been running 5.0.1 since it was first released by LG with no problems.
