4g "turning on" problem

I've gone from ~14 hours per charge to ~4 hours since the update. I've pinpointed the issue but can't figure out how to fix it. Ever since the update, when I go into "Wireless & networks" in the settings, the 4G check box is grayed out and says "turning on..." (as it normally does when I try to turn on 4g) but I did not tell it to come on and it never actually comes on. This happens automatically, immediately after turning the phone on and it continues to try to turn on the 4g non-stop until the battery dies. I tried toggling the 4g widget, "force stopping" processes, and everything else that I can, but nothing interrupts the process.

This is also more likely the cause as when I go to see what's sucking up the battery, the "awake time" and "up time" are the same (which should not happen).

So, does anyone else have this problem and also, does anyone have a fix???

I think I have a reason the battery life is so bad...
After the OTA update, the google Talk app was turned back on, and I was signed in...before the update i was always signed out...
this application constantly checks with a server to see if anyone is online..and is infact one of the apps that Sprint suggests that you sign out of if you don't use it..
Why it would automatically sign me back in, is beyond me...

I have found mine doing this also. I have an app called Quick settings and when I look my 4g and wifi have turned on.
MY battery is draining like crazy to the point I am thinking of an Iphone and dumping my EVO and my wife's which we have had since launch day. I tried to root today but did not get it done with Unrevoked3. Anything harder then that and its above me. I am just sick of having to recharge 2 or 3 times a day when I used to never have to at all.

THis OTA update has really pissed me off. I have waited for over a year to get the Sirius App with Howard Stern. He finally is on and this OTA has made it so the app doesn' t work on 3G or 4G.

I had this problem with my Evo when brand new. I had to go into the Sprint store and they stated they had the blank the device and re-install the core load. They stated it was a software problem and the fix was to re-install all the OS.

I should add they told me a hard reset would not do it. This is what they told me, no idea on accuracy.

Anyone else having issues with wifi since the update? My phone was updated Friday morning, and ever since then my phone will not stay connected to my wifi network. It will work for awhile, but then just stop. Turning wifi off then back on will get it working again.

Also wifi, when it is working, seems a little slower since the update as well.

I had the sqype beta version..I just downloaded and installed this update.. Then I kept getting msgs ..saying that Swype not responding ..force to close. I went ahead and uninstalled the beta version and tried to re-install the beta version.. Ofcourse when I try the installer says the beta can't be for this version and Swype came with it..

Ok .. how can I recover swype?

I'm having many of the issues already noted here. Biggest being the actual phone frequently not working for me.

Can the update be uninstalled? If so, how?

The OTA update includes Swype..and you cannot use the beta on the same phone... just uninstall the beta, and you should be good to go.

Once you uninstall it you'll just have to enable Swype...you do this by long pressing in an input field, and choosing "input method"..and select swype!

Ok, so ever since installing the new update, I've been having issues with the screen. The phone would be sitting there, with the screen off, and then suddenly, it would turn on with no signs of any notifications or anything. It's been occurring every minute or so. Anyone else have this problem??

The OTA update includes Swype..and you cannot use the beta on the same phone... just uninstall the beta, and you should be good to go.

Once you uninstall it you'll just have to enable Swype...you do this by long pressing in an input field, and choosing "input method"..and select swype!

Thanks.. I uninstalled the Swype beta... However, when I long press in the text field, no pop up occurs like before with the beta. I also looked in the Language and Keyboard menu off of settings. I don't see any swype options as well..

Should I remove the update and re-install? Any ideas how?

Also. the trace function with Ultrakeyboard no longer works. Actually, no other keyboard will go active even if I select and restart phone. The old skool tap-tap typing method sucks!

I may have messed something up then, because I kept getting an error about my Swype beta not working, so I uninstalled. Tried to reinstall and got the notice that Swype was now included wit the update, but...no Swype on my phone.

What to do??

UPDATE: Never mind. Found the answer..."In any text entry area (such as a text message) tap and hold the area that you would enter text. An option will pop up and you should choose input method then swype." For some reason, this worked to turn swype on for me, not going through settings to do it...

Thanks! Would you believe I just rebooted my phone and it works now. Just long pressed in the text window and the dialog box with "input method" came up. So now using swype again. Yippee!!!

Ok once again. I will repeat myself....

when ever you update to a new software via OTA you must under all that is Good and all do the following first....

Reset Phone Storage aka Clear Storage
Download all update to the current system software not the new OTA 3.7x
Do Not Install any software yet.
Now install the OTA Update 3.7x
Then install all new updates like flash player...
Then install your custom software like poweramp music player
Do under any penalty of stupidness restore your system with something like titanium backup. The reason is simple... Their maybe differences between the previous system files and the OTA Update of 3.7x So then see if you have all the problems that you guys have been saying... I followed this and have had ZERO issues with screens and streaming playback... Something as simple as this goes a long way toward customer happiness with HTC... After all in windows XP Vista or Win 7 I would never to an upgrade (which is what you guys did by not clearing storage first) I would do a full install.... Oh and this would also get rid of the SWYPE BETA ISSUES! You KNOW SINCE IT IS INSTALLED IN THE NEW OTA TO BEGIN WITH... ALWAYS FOLKS CLEAR STORAGE BEFORE INSTALLING A NEW OTA UPDATE.... ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT REALLY NOW.... PERHAPS IT SHOULD BE A REQUIREMENT TO INSTALL THE NEW VERSION...

I can't believe this thread is not 10 times longer than it is...

My issues are with the battery now and the life off and charging...

I have had one of those EXTENDED batteries... I forgot which one I purchased but have had it since it came out maybe 4-6 months ago...

BUT this new update is reading it wrong and draining it...

Recently it showed fully charged and then I turned the phone off and back on, all of a sudden I'm at 85%... maybe it's the batter APP but also not according to the icon at the top either...

I'll wait and see after a few more off and ons what it is still doing...

I am having issues using anything stored on my SD card when I plug in my phone to charge with certain usb plugs. When I use a usb cord and a usb cigarette adapter in my car, it will dismount my SD card and I cannot access my music, etc, unless I unplug it. This also happens when I plug it into certain wall plugs, but not all of them. This is frustrating because it was working just fine before the update. Not sure what the deal is, but it makes using the phone in the car a big problem.

Also, battery life is terrible and I am getting the DRM notices every single time I plug the phone into either a computer or a usb plug that dismounts the SD card. Weird.
