List your EC05 Problems/Praise

i manually updated from di18 to ec05. seems ok thus far

but just a few gripes:
1. phone tilts so easily now for some reason. im always in landscape which is irritating.
2. i love handcent, but whenever i get a text the "messaging icon" on the bottom will pop up a number with my unread messages. never did this before. so i always have to go through the builtin messaging app to re-read my messages so the darned # goes away.
3. autocorrect seems really off. its not even helping apparently. the suggestions are horrible and usually just punctuation symbols.

For #2 did you try turning off the notifications in the stock messaging app since you use handcent?

My one gripe, The stupid call log contains text messages. How did they manage to mess this one up?

My gps is hosed! None of the posted gps hacks via dialer codes or creating a short cut to lbstest work (i don't even see lbstest as a service/app to link to). I thought I'd reach out before trying to revert back....

Before you do that, did you try a cold power cycle (all the way off then back on)?

My wife got EC05 today, and I can verify it also had the compass upside down bug like mine did with EB13. To fix it, go to Settings/Display/Horizontal Calibration. Hit the OK button and lay flat upside on a table. or lay it upside down on a flat table with the edge hanging over where you can reach up and hit the calibrate button.

Then do a normal compass calibration after this. I use GPS Status and Tools' Compass calibration tool.

Since my phone updated when you hit the dial button to bring up the number pad to dial when you hit the magnifying glass to normally bring up the on screen keyboard so you can find a contact all I get is the vibration. No keyboard.

Anyone else have this issue? Phone is worthless to me if it's the new normal.

I'm forced to use a PIN lock for my corporate exchange email account now. With DI18 I could use a pattern lock. Now every time I turn on the phone I have to slide to unlock and then enter my PIN. Is there a work around? I've tried removing the account and putting it back but it forces a PIN every time.

also manually updated from di18 to ec05 using Paul's instructions ("no data loss" option). here's my ongoing list of gripes - if i haven't griped about it, it means i haven't tested it or that it's working acceptably:

= when i turn on "background data" (for example, when going to Market), it automatically switches my default email to PUSH. that's a battery killer

= 3G indicator no longer blue/red for up/down but blue/blue.

= autocorrect seems really off. its not even helping apparently. the suggestions are horrible and usually just punctuation symbols

= no SILENT option with volume slider , it goes from volume to vibrate - no Silent

= Suggested Words with virtual android keyboard is way, way, WAY off. hope it is "learning"

= i know it's a froyo thing, but i really hate the numbered home screens

= this might be an Opera Mini thing... about a week ago I had a Settings option in OM to set it as default browser - it is no longer an option in the settings menu.

= the App drawer was really out of wack after I rebooted from flashing, but it was nice to see that one has controls over app location now. howver, playing with it a bit more, it seems to get mis-sorted on its own after tweaking...

== tested the phone, so I called myself from work... caller ID is listed as one contact (it is my office after all), BUT the voicemail indicator shows from another contact (also a co-worker). weird that it would switch contacts like that for the same call

== over-eager screen orientation switching, and lack of eagerness to correct itself in some cases

======

Hopefully not much more to come!

if you want a silent option then you need to go to sound under settings and choose to not vibrate when in silent mode

i didn't know about the mag glass feature before, but in dial screen, i see that you have to select the Contacts tab to get th search function. i know... extra step.

you can also just search from home screen (assuming you still have the search bar). contacts are the first items in results

yeah i turned off all the stock notifications. so i dont get two notifications in my top bar. it just shows a "counter" on the messages icon on the bottom bar. prior to the upgrade, the bottom bar wasn't very dynamic. but i guess it is now

Then your phone is hosed, because I have not read anywhere on any forum of anyone saying their gps is hosed, in fact, the exact opposite.

That's what I figured. :( Everything else is better with 2.2. My GPS actually worked well on 2.1until this update. My luck with tech equipment I'm afraid...

Thanks for the input.

Yes, on both my phones the Google account password was lost after the update. However, all you have to do is tap on the notification and it will give you a login screen. Just re-enter your password and then you'll be good to go.

its a widget, with Full Touchwiz 3.0, you can remove that from the bottom and replace it with the hancent icon (not widget to my knowledge). open the app drawer, hit menu, edit, drag the messages icon back to the drawer and you can move something there in its place.

Well I have to say my GPS finally works...

I haven't seen any weirdness with text suggestions being way off - I normally use Swype - is it an issue with the std android onscreen keyboard instead?

I have noted the checkerboarding when using pinch to zoom occaisionally (stock browser).

Something I haven't seen anyone else mention yet: My "time without service" seems to be fixed! No more going into airplane mode and back everytime I power cycle! Has anyone else seen this??

Texts... phone... apps...data... all seem to be working ok. 4G, wifi, 3G... no complaints!

I need time to play with it... I'm sure I'll come across more pros/cons...

One thing I forgot to mention... screen orientation on rotation... sigh. Mine seems to be a little sleepy... taking a few seconds generally every time - something I definitely didn't have on Eclair. Odd that some people seem to be reporting the exact opposite.

Calibrate your G-sensor in settings--display. Lay the phone on a flat surface face up. that helped me immensely. If you are rooted, you can do it another way.

Thanks Andrew... I had seen that posted elsewhere and have already done it... seems like I'm still at 3-4 seconds for every rotation - I can see that getting annoying... sigh. Maybe my level surface wasn't level... I'll try again.

Still - appreciate the response!

a lot of people have had issues with windows 7 64 bit and getting their phone work properly on their computer. i think it has to do with the drivers. if you have a computer with vista or windows 7 32 bit i would try that.

For me...I totally unistalled samsung drivers and deleted the samsung folders from the registry. I used pdanet to install the drivers and that worked fine.
