Location based reminders - again

I have been struggling with this since making the switch to android. Googles location based reminders do NOT remind you until you unlock the phone. I tried all sorts of tests, setting etc.

So, for fun.. I installed cortana, and told her to remind me.... BAM within a minute of arriving, i get the reminder!

How is this possible that google, which constantly knows where I am and asks me to give info about that place... cant even give a location reminder? but cortana can? she can even do it when you leave the location, google doesnt even have this option.

Also. Google Keep location based reminders work fine... but, google assistant doesnt want to use keep reminders, only notes. This is one feature i use ALL the time and cant believe that google falls so short of iOS in this department.

If anyone has a fix for the assistant location reminders I would be soooo grateful!

There's no "fix" - that's how GA works. You can use Feedback in Settings (use the search bar) to mention the difference and ask that they change GA. The feedback goes to the right place for things like that.
