Login/Logout Issues

Do you have your browser configured to empty your cookies when exiting? They are required for this feature to work.

Yes, I do have the browser configured to empty cookies upon exiting. I have always had that setting configured, so I'm assuming something happened to AC Forums on 12/19 to no longer have that feature working with this particular cookie setting?

One other question. If I change my browser settings on all 4 computers I regularly use to keep cookies upon exiting the browser, how will this work when changing computers? Previous to 12/19, even with cookies being deleted upon exiting, I could leave work in the evening and come home, and when I logged on to my home computer and went to AC Forums, the "see first new post" would work perfectly. Now that this feature is tied to cookies on a particular computer, am I correct in assuming that each computer I go to AC on will have its own idea on what my "first new post" would be?

I'll investigate this, but I can't replicate this myself. It's default vBulletin behavior to use cookies to track whether you've read a forum/thread or not.

That use of cookies is understood.

It seems to me that the re-direct action after clicking Log-out is what is different for me. Previously, the re-direct would be to the Forum section and included the message that cookies had been cleared etc. Then when I next returned to AC, my browser opened to that same page (with the same message) and a log-in took me into the forum section and the clickable links to choose which forum to open.

Now the log-out re-directs to the Blog section. When I next return now my browser opens to the forum section with the 'cookies have been cleared' message (possibly this is from my browser cache?). When I log-in from that page it re-directs me to my profile History page and I have to navigate to the Forum section and choose a forum there.

Another effect of this flaky log-out behavior is that 'Mark Forum Read' seems not to be recognized when returning to AC the next day...it works fine during the day when I stay logged in.

HTH, Cory...and maybe after all the CES activity slows you can look into this some more.

Doesn't matter what I try, it still says: "You last visited: 12-19-2011 at 09:21 AM". Also, after logging off, then back in, the forums continue to show threads as unread even though I've read them or used the "Forum Tools, Mark this forum read" option before logging out (which does mark them read until I log out). I've tried not clearing browser cache, history or cookies, also turned off the blocking host file (MVPS) and blocked ad site cookie settings in IE, but problem still exists. Like I said before, it seems to be tied to my account, not anything on the PC.

Exactly the same here, although now somehow that time shifted to 2 days ago - 01-05-2012 at 12:35 PM even though I've visited constantly since then...I thought it was fixed there for a second. And it is shifted for all computers and browsers I use. And I've reset my broswer options to the default on Chrome, Firefox, and IE (when at my work Windows computer), so my cookies are staying after I log out and close the browser even though I never had to do that before 12/19/2011.

Just commented on the TB forum.
Would help if it gets fixed to know what to read on forums as new.

I have found what I consider a failproof way of getting the "last logged in" value correct, which then accurately tells me the next time I log in which threads I have not read. Right before logging out I got all the way to the top under Quick Links and select "Mark all forums read." Then I can log out and when I log in everything new since I last logged out is correctly marked as unread while everything before is marked as read.

This is obviously not perfect since using this method means that you can't log in, read some stuff, and then log out and then have everything correct the next time you log in. But I only follow one forum so it works for me. Also, note that you have to mark all forums read - just marking a particular forum read under Forum Tools does not do the trick.

Anyway, this is what I've been doing the last few days to work around whatever it is that has been making the normal behavior not work for me since the middle of December.

That's what I've been doing also as far as keeping threads marked as read. It does seem to work pretty well. But nothing I do changes the "Last visited" date, so that function is worthless to me. It used to be cool as a reminder of the last time you logged in.

That's surprising. When I select "Mark Forums Read" from the global Quick Links, the entire browser page refreshes, and at that very moment the last visited value changes to the current time and date. This is unlike when you select to mark just the forum you are actively viewing to be read using the Forum tools, which doesn't reload the entire page - it just uses some sort of javascript or something, and whatever it does doesn't take once I close the browser.
