Lollipop?

Upgraded my VZW Samsung s5 to lollipop today. Now my phone is useless. I am constantly receiving the error "com.sec.imsservice has stopped" and no efforts seem to fix it. The same message keeps popping up every two seconds or so until it freezes up. Overheats and drains the battery in no time. Pull battery, repeat. I did two factory resets to no avail.

After 45 minutes on chat with Samsung they said it was a software issue (their issue, not Verizon's), told me the roll out was just happening and bugs were expected (I paraphrase) and that (get this) I should wait before updating.?? Ha! They told me to send them the phone and they would fix it.

Better luck to everyone else!

wow. Sorry to hear that. Im so glad that I didnt have that issue at all.

Just upgraded to 5.0 and it seems to run without any issues. Other than the settings menu and a few changes to the calendar app, I don't see much changed from the previous TouchWiz. I'm using Nova Launcher and thought that if I go to TW home i would see the changes...well, there isn't much there. Lock screen notifications seem to work the same way they did under 4.4 where you tap the notification and then you have to swipe to unlock to the app that "issued" the notification.

One of the features 5.0 was supposed to have is multiple user support. can anyone else find this or is this something verizon has disabled? I have looked and looked for it to no avail.

I know someone above mentioned that there is horrible lag, but has anyone else noticed any type of lag with this update? Is TouchWiz smoother overall?

I might wait until I read some user reviews until I update.

I have noticed zero lag. Very snappy. Overall a very nice upgrade. Still playing around with it .....

You would think it would be in the security section of the settings but sadly it's not there....

Almost like it's turbocharged.... must be the ART vs Dalvik thing..... it's like a different phone. Even the typing is better. I'll be watching the battery like the NFL watches pigskin ball inflation, which is very closely....

I updated to Lollipop a couple of days ago. So far so good with the exception of my Samsung Gear Fit device. It doesn't get any messages from my S5 again and i get an Endomondo error on my phone when i try to start the app with my Gear Fit. Someone with the same issues???

Re: Lollipop? Calling problem.

When I try to make a phonecall, either by dialling the number or by picking a number from my contact's list, I immediately get "Call Ended". After some trying i can call. But this problem is little bit annoying. And it all happend when i updated to Lollipop. Does anyone has same problems or any ideas to fix this problem?

My phone works great after the update. It was a little laggy right after the install, but once the software "settled" in it has been fast and smooth. There is definitely a noticable difference in speed. And everything works, including my Martian watch app.

Question on Nova Launcher which I am also using.

After 5.0 installed and booted up, was Nova still your default launcher?

I thought I'd post my experience with this download because I just bought the S5 SM-900V and came initially equipped with 4.4.2 kitkat.

So, after buying the device I started to do more research on it to see which apps I was going to need or use and if I should install them or not. I ran across Lollipop discussions right away but my phone had no prompts at all to download any kind of updates save for apps. In any case I explored my device and found Software updates in my settings screen and proceeded to "check for updates" manually. Bingo. I first downloaded 4.4.4. and a subsequent update to that system followed by another 'check' and DLed the 2 Lollipop updates after that. So, from 4.4.2 to 5.0 in about an hour with a total of 4 updates. Like many others, I had the issue with Google play prompting me to update an 'app.' Clicking on the notification would bring me directly to the Google Play page but it offered to either 'deactivate' or to 'open.' At first I went with 'open' and it just took me to the Google 'settings' page, which was basically useless. However, outside of this bug lollipop seemed to work pretty good. It wasn't super fast, but it was functional. The app update prompt seemed to go away for awhile and I went to sleep form the night.

I woke up this morning to find the app update prompt had returned. But this time when I clicked on it I was directed to a Google Play update that gave me the option to 'update' rather than 'open' or 'deactivate.' I DLed the update for Google Play and haven't seen any other update prompts since. But more than that, the system seems to be operating at a blazing fast speed now. I click on something and the response time is immediate. It may be because Google Play is an administrative program that it was slowing down the system in some way. This might also contribute to some battery drain although all 4 of my updates took me down from 100% to about 82%. I think I was at 69% when I went to sleep, woke up and it was down to 64%. Did the update about an hour ago and I'm still at 64%.

That's where I am now. I still need to activate many apps and accept the terms etc. So if anything changes, i'll update this post.

Question on Nova Launcher which I am also using.

After 5.0 installed and booted up, was Nova still your default launcher?

It left Nova as my default launcher, after the upgrade. The only thing I had to do was delete and then reinstall the TeslaUnread plugin. The unread badges wouldnt refresh after messages were read. Once reinstalled it works perfectly.

I also endured the dreaded "Unfortunately com.sec.imsservice has stopped" error message every few seconds. My issue wound up being a program called "Thinkfree Document Viewer". Uninstalling it stopped the error message immediately and now the phone is "right as rain" after the Lollipop upgrade.

Thinkfree Document Viewer installed with some MobileIron apps my company rolled out a number of months ago. I wound up uninstalling MobileIron a couple months back, but Thinkfree Document Viewer never uninstalled. It also likely never received any more updates to make it compatible with Lollipop.

In my case it was neither a Lollipop, nor Verizon issue. But a downloaded app that was apparently non Lollipop compliant.

Hope this helps someone.

Has anyone fixed their issues with a factory reset? Sometimes new OS updates don't sit well with existing ecosystems. If you can, back up and do a factory reset by powering your phone off, waiting for it to shut down completely, and then hold Power, Volume Up, and the home key all at the same time until you feel the phone vibrate. Then, you should be in a colorful looking menu. Use the volume keys to move down to Factory Reset. Click it with the power key. Then navigate to the only "yes" and click. It will most likely ask you if you are really sure. Once you do this, you should have a fresh install to put your apps on. Sometimes this works because basically your apps are still seeing Kitkat and Dalvik instead of Lollipop and ART.

This isn't meant for those of you who already know how and why, just some tips for beginners. Don't want everyone to feel like idiots, lol.

Boom! From My S5

My phone is having the Google play store error - slow as hell and I have no idea what to do now - please someone HELP!!!
