Lollipop?

How can you do that?

By the way: After deactivating all the animations, Lollipop works much better. Before, my phone used to "lag" as hell, now it's ok. But I don't really like Lollipop. All the animations fell like being on one of those ugly flash animated websites made in year 2000 and there's no way to deactivate that crap like the blue text raindrop or the ugly blue screen border tap color or the blue dot coming up when I activate something.
The Priority-Mode is really bad. Everywhere in the internet, people show screenshots how to set it up for weekdays and hours, but my Lollipop doesn't have these options. And Priority-Mode without time setting is pretty useless.
I don't like all the stuff they did to make it "look more like an iPhone". If I would like to have an iPhone, I would buy an iPhone...

I'll try the system out for 2 weeks and then I'll decide whether to downgrade to Kitkat or not.

Settings, notification panel, related apps

Update to Lollipop on both S5's in the family went without a hitch. First thing that pleased me is now, thanks to Lollipop, I can have photos taken with the S5 saved to the external memory card and apps like QuickPic, ES File Explorer, can work with them, delete them, etc..

I just completed the Lollipop upgrade for Samsung Galaxy s5 and am seriously disappointed. While I did not experience any difference in speed-my Kit Kat version was excellent-I do find the entire phone somewhat lagging on some touch points. There are several areas which are even bigger disappointments such as:

1. The storage of all apps and web pages in task manager-this may be an user option choice so I'm not 100% sure.
2. It's called a PHONE so why, on a planet where human fingers don't get smaller over time, would the nut job designer
make the phone pad smaller?
3. The design supposedly meant to be clean for trend sake isn't. Many options are difficult to see and read and some even
overlap others. Font sizes within the browser, email and master areas seem to conflict and take hours to re-configure. With
all the options why not leave overall color and size options to the user?

I called Verizon and asked to go back to Kit Kat version 4.1 but they said it cannot be reversed... so I'm stuck!!!!

A very disappointed user!

Never done a factory reset. What exactly does it do? Does it put the phone back to the basic S5? Would I have to download all my apps back onto the phone? Set up Nova Launcher again? Wouldn't a restart after Lollipop do the trick instead of a factory reset? Why a factory reset after Lollipop? Sorry for all the questions but I would like to understand how the factory reset works. Thanks.

Restart and factory reset and completely different. Reset deletes ALL files and downloaded apps you may have on you phone so you would need to download them again and set up your phone from scratch. I thought they recommend doing it after performing a firmware update anyway, particularly when a major OS upgrade is involved. I reset my device every time I get updates by turning it off, going into recovery mode and wiping cache partition first, then factory resetting it and never had a performance problem. But then there's always a first one, maybe I will when Lollipop arrives for me?

I never heard of doing a factory reset after performing a major OS upgrade. My S5 is my first Android phone. Learning something new every day.

It may seem like overkill, and probably is, but here's my system for taking an upgrade.

*When I find out I can download the update, I make sure I've backed up all of the things I don't want lose.*

Before I take the OTA I clear the cache and do a factory reset.
Reboot the phone.
Download and install the OTA update.
Lastly clear the cache and factory reset again.
That's my process for a full version OS upgrade. The incremental updates (like 4.2 to 4.4) I just wipe the cache unless I'm feeling frisky. I've never had a problem with any upgrade on any of my android devices using this method.
I know a lot of folks don't want to deal with setting things up again after a reset, but for me, it's nice to start over every now and again.

Also, a factory reset is the first thing I do when I bring a new device home from the store, just in case an update went awry in the wilds of a Verizon store.

I am not happy with lollipop at all. My phone runs completely horrible and lags big time. My battery is dead after 4 hours with light-moderate use. I have turned off the animations even and it still is bad. I don't know what to do. I don't want it anymore on my phone

I have messaged both verizon and samsung to complain ..please join me and maybe they will Listen. Now when I click something on my screen it goes completely blank and reloads every thing until what i clicked open. My WiFi keeps constantly disconnecting now too. This is frustrating.

Upgraded my VZW Samsung s5 to lollipop today. Now my phone is useless. I am constantly receiving the error "com.sec.imsservice has stopped" and no efforts seem to fix it. The same message keeps popping up every two seconds or so until it freezes up. Overheats and drains the battery in no time. Pull battery, repeat. I did two factory resets to no avail.

After 45 minutes on chat with Samsung they said it was a software issue (their issue, not Verizon's), told me the roll out was just happening and bugs were expected (I paraphrase) and that (get this) I should wait before updating.?? Ha! They told me to send them the phone and they would fix it.

Better luck to everyone else!

Yes also com.sec.imservices has stopped

I did my two updates to my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 this afternoon, without any moves to clear cache partitions or any factory resets.

I had three issues pop up after the updates finished:
  1. There was a lot of slowness and lag all over the place. This seemed to last an hour or three after the update finished. Could have been the phone clearing out whatever it needed to clear out. Lots of apps also seemed to need new updates, so it could have been all that clearing up. Now, about 6 hours later, speed seems to be mostly fine, with the most noticeable speed hesitation being hitting the Recently Used Apps button and tapping into an app from that Recently Used Apps screen.
  2. Google Play Services app needed to be updated via Play Store, but it kept failing to download anything and update. I just kept trying. Eventually, it was able to download some of its update, seemingly getting stuck about 9.18 MB in, where I cancelled it and restarted it a few times...But eventually, it successfully updated, and I stopped getting that message. Maybe 2 hours or so after the update of sporadic trying, while troubleshooting/in airplane mode for the next issue.
  3. "Unfortunately, com.sec.imsservice has stopped." I was getting this many times per minute, sometimes having it pop up again seconds after I tap the OK to dismiss it. Sometimes, it popped up and disappeared before I could even read it, no OK necessary. Long story short, I eventually did a video call to Samsung Support, and the what ultimately seemed to fix it is going into Settings > Applications > Application Manager and clearing the caches first for Contacts and then com.sec.imsservice.

I hope that helps some folks!

So I have the com.sec.imsservice issue, as well. How did you narrow it down to that specific app? Thanks

Nothing very scientific... Just went to Settings>Applications>Application Manger >Downloaded and started deleting apps that I was not the worried about losing a bunch of custom program settings on. Finally I got lucky.

Have you restarted or factory reset your phone after updating?

Argh yeah I gave in and did a factory reset. Working on putting everything back together now. I hope this takes care of this mess.

I was totally surprised to see Lollipop on a Verizon S5. Last Saturday, I decided to finally retire my 3 year old Galaxy Nexus. I had been contemplating a change to the S5 for some time. Bought my wife one last Saturday and took over her Note 3, which she has never liked. After swapping sims and restore her data from Verizon Cloud, she was busy setting it up. I guess I haven't been keeping up with the news in the last couple of days but, knowing Verizon, I wasn't expecting 5.0 any time soon. As I was putting the finishing touches on the set up for her, I looked at the sw version: KitKat 4.4.4 but when I checked for system updates, there it was; the first of two downloads, supposedly to set the phone up for the upgrade. After that completed, I went back to check for updates. The second one was ready for download, so I did. After a few minutes, the system was up and running.Really?

The only problem that we had was that the Verizon Cloud Restore function did not populate her calendar. She had just finished re-entering her appointments. when the update wiped them out again. She put 'em back in and, hopefully, they will stay.

Still surprised that the update came so quickly. It makes sense; the S5 has been a big seller and is still relatively new so why wouldn't they update it quickly. Now, if I can just get from 4.4.4 on my Note 3 to 5.0, I would shut up. :-)

my phone is att and when I turned on my wifi this morning it seems to shows device manager is downloading software. Is this the update you'll are talking about. did anyone else's phone just start updating
by its self? I have no idea what the download is, doesn't say. how long will it take?
