Long story short: Will a Euro G3 Work on T-Mo?

Will a D855 work on T-Mobile USA reasonably well? Location is New York City, NY. Wanted to order one for my mom and the Euro is noticeably cheaper. Want to make sure it all works right.

It will work, but you will only get 3g. No LTE as the European model runs on different LTE bands.

I thought that as long as the phone was a quad band, you'd be guaranteed at least 4G speeds with a compatible carrier?

Quad band and quad band LTE are different. The European model (D855) carries the following bands for LTE:

700 / 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600

For it to properly work with T-Mobile's network it needs to have support for 1700 / 1900.

My mom's still using a N4 without the LTE hack so she probably won't mind the lack of LTE as long as HSPA+ 21/42 work as well as voice.
