Question Looking for an upgrade - Surface Duo 2

I've had my Surface Duo 2 for years and it has been good and faithful. However, it has begun to fall apart on me (the edge wrapper isn't staying put, the back has a spider crack in it, charge port is inconsistent) so I've been considering replacements. The idea of a folding phone is nice, but looking at so many options I'm missing out on the feature I really want: Multitasking. Surface Duo could have one app on each screen so I could go back and forth. Does anything offer something like that? Other important feature would be durability.

I think the foldable would be the way to go, that would be the best replacement for your Surface Duo, The Pixel fold has good specs with dust resistance and hinge protection and multitasking would provide enough to satisfy. I have the Fold 7 great device have no issues with it and has great multitasking options and slim device. There's rumors of shorter Fold 8 release coming this year which will be wider and closer to your current phone.
