Looking for that "stock" feel

Hey everyone,

Alright, so I'm not a huge fan of Motorola's UI. I'm an original Droid user and I love Google's interface, not sure why Motorola felt the need to mess it up. I use LauncherPro to get around their Home replacement, bloo and the offical app for facebook, twidroid for twitter, and I actually like the moto corporate email (searches the corporate directory right from the "from" line, very cool). The one thing that I cannot get around and is bothering me quite a bit is the motorola contacts app. It's terrible. I've never really heard of a Contacts replacement app, but do any exist? Or is there any way to get the stock 2.1 one? I really really like the quick links that you can get from tapping someone's portrait (call, sms, facebook, maps, last.fm, etc) and I also miss being able to sync my contacts with facebook via the official app. It's so much better because not only can you regulate when it updates, but it doesn't import ALL of your facebook contacts. so annoying.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I agree. Launcher Pro basically makes everything better except the Contacts app. Vanilla Android was much batter at doing this.

Maybe it's just me but I think this UI is very similar to stock. I still have my D1 and fired it up yesterday to compare (wow, it feels outdated compared to my DX), and the UIs looked almost the same.

Given the popularity and high accolades HTC's SenseUI received. I can see exactly why moto updated the UI with motoblur. Personally, I think they did a better job, then HTC, as I found SenseUI to be bloated and slow. With that said, the geat advantage of android, is the customizable nature of the OS and so I use Launcher Pro myself.

unfortunately I can't really say that I've used Sense all too much. I played around with a co-worker's Evo once for like 5 minutes and today used another co-worker's Incredible for a few minutes. I do think motorola's home replacement is much better than htc's. however, i believe both of them have their faults. the app drawer on the X is horrible from my experience. yes, i run a task manager and i usually have about 150 MBs of RAM open, but when I flick through the stock app drawer on the X, it's embarrassingly slow (probably the main reason I moved to LauncherPro) however when I tried the DInc today, the Sense drawer was silky smooth.
as I sort of said in my original post, I think Motorola really dropped the ball when it comes to contact management and social network integration. i hate that I have to use blur in order to sync my contacts with facebook. blur has seriously broken some of the core functionality of android 2.1's contact integration and I don't think Google should allow them to brand it as a Google phone if it's missing such a huge feature.

but speaking of which, if anyone visits droid-life.com, they posted an .apk for the stock gallery app (DROID X Owners Missing the 3D Gallery from Stock Android? Download it Here. | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog) before which got me wondering in the first place if maybe someone could extract the contacts .apk from a stock device...
