Looks like the LG G5 isn't actually made out of metal on the outside...

Yah, but the on screen buttons are much better than the so last decade capacitive ones. Even cars have went away from capacitive buttons to touchscreens. Sammy needs to get with the trend. Get rid of the buttons, gain removable battery ability and lower the price of your overpriced hardware and we can talk.
Uhhhhhhhh.....

Is it just me, or do I just prefer the tactile feedback of the radio volume knob rather than touching or sliding a screen to change the volume?

We've had retail versions for less than a week, still. Pretty simple.

I appreciate what you are saying Phil and if AC's opinion wasn't important, I wouldn't have said anything. Truth is, sometimes you guys are very independent and in other reviews very bias. I understand corporate pressure to not rock the boat. It is present in all companies to some degree. No community Manager can say they don't get pressure from owners to please the visitors/viewers/customers.And if there is a lot of hate going for a product, justified or not... Well, the pressure is there.

The G5 review seems to be slow in coming out. I do recall in the Podcast about 10 days ago that you had a pre-production in your hands and had already spent some time playing around with. At least enough time for you to make some comments about using the camera module. There have been AC articles about the modules, the need for modules, AT&T bloat, the App Drawer, etc. And if you have spent enough time with the phone to write all of those articles, a full review could have been done. So there is some reason you guys are waiting. I am not calling it a conspiracy, just pointing out the obvious and if it were a Samsung, I think it would have been done fast. The longer the wait, the more tainted the review. Kind of like a jury's exposure to media.

If you had said, yes we have spent some time with the phone, mostly with the pre-production unit and we have haven't been impressed, so to give the phone a proper chance, we are going to wait until we spend time with a actual retail phone and we have only had it a week. Now that I would agree with. Sorry, I just don't agree with your statement as it sits. But it wouldn't be the first time I am wrong, because I don't know what goes on behind the scenes.

:what: You say that like you know. You couldn't possibly know. You're just speculating.

Aren't all comments by readers speculation of the writers intentions? It is an opinion of that speculation. Just like you are speculating about what I meant when I wrote that. We are both right. You should of just said I am wrong.

Truth is, you can't lead a sentence with "truth is" and come across as speculative.

I like solid plastic phones. The Lumia 800 was built like a brick and remains one of the nicest handsets I've ever owned, regardless of how borked Windows Phone 7 was.

Nokia was the best Android phones that were never made. I agree, they were nice. And they set a quality standard years ago that is just now today being matched by other manufacturers. If only they hadn't gone down the Windows rabbit hole.

Really? Are we going to argue the intention of certain words. I didn't intend to come off as speculative. It is my opinion and I think it is absolute. But by the very nature of it being an opinion makes it speculation. Now you can say that words have no "nature" and we can argue that point. Or perhaps we can argue my grammar or improper punctuation. I suck at it. So that might be fun.

It's the grammar. I blame my wife. She an even worse grammar nazi than me.

Words are actually meaningless and comprised of letters which have no meaning

That is a very fair statement. I have seen LG take a beating before and all manufacturers have flaws. I am certainly can not standing up for the G5, as I haven't seen it myself in person. I am interested in owning one and I can't say I don't have reservations because of the reviews.

What I do know is. Some people who have bought the phone have said they don't see the gaps. And they like the finish.Love the phone. The internet loves drama and about 75% of the hype around the quality usually can tossed right out the window. Lastly, I get irritated at the mob mentality. Meaning, some people like you post logical posts and concerns about the quality, where as many are just posting to beat down LG just for the fun it, so they can beat their chest about how great their Samsung phone is. They don't add anything to the discussion, nor have they ever considered buying an LG.

Those are the people my post was mostly directed towards. I also think people need to stand back a little and decide if the flaws are as bad as some would have you believe and this might actually be a very good phone. Much like the "bendgate" problem with 6s, which was a problem, but not a problem. That is the wait and see approach I will take.

The guy above and others with comments like him or her are right its kinda like the folks some of which are on here that never used an apple product but left comments on #Bendgate, #antennagate, never used a Samsung product but left comments on #S-pengate, never had an HTC product but left comments on how HTC sucks, or the M9 camera sucks but never used it right right, and now we have LG with #paintgate #GapGate #ChipPaintGate every manufacture has gone through it and everyone has given their opinion whether you had the phone or not you at some point gave an opinion whether thats on a forum , in your house to friends or family you did it so everyone lets stop acting as if no one has done this. Its okay that some people are like I don't know what these guys are talking about my phone doesn't have flaws in it, my screen is perfect, I love my phone listen to me keep saying that is all good as I talk myself into loving it, thats fine. But what is wrong is for anyone to say just because folks love the device that others are wrong for commenting based on actual evidence that folks have units that are buckled poor build, screens that are bleeding, blotching and what not and it goes on.. there is actual video evidence yet it doesn't matter because they have not used it so they can't comment. Just stop it just stop forums are for this they are a place to discuss, disagree, agree, and provide help. its not a happy ho-hum you can't talk unless you have the phone in hand regardless of videos posted online that show the obvious just listen to those that say I love my phone. Sorry ..

That doesn't change the fact that the phone is indeed made of metal

Who says it isn't made of metal, folks have just said it does't feel like it go look at the thousands of MWC videos everyone says that and now look at all of them even Phils recent unboxing of the US version of the phone said the same still doesn't feel like it but no one ever said it wasn't. I think everyone is getting confused doesn't feel like and is not are two different things altogether. Now can you answer this mine is out for delivery now so in the next hour or so I will have mine in hand going to town on it got the titanium colored one I just want to know are there weak spots like when pressing on the back feeling the empty void like you get on the BB Priv. This would be because the battery is removable so there is a cavity that is not solid. the phone being without paint streaks and what not is important to me because I am not going to put a case on my phone I do not do that with any takes away from the design.

I think where this is going as far as LG is concerned is, it is made of metal and covered in a coating. Is a vehicle made of metal and painted not a still a metal car?

Bottom Line, it is made of enough metal to be called a metal phone. I think mostly people are feeling like they have been fooled. Never a good thing for a potential customer. So they are venting. This is another case of LG innovation gone wrong. They discovered a high tech coating that they thought would work well and customers would like. There may be other reasons for the coating that we may never know, as to hide flaws as "speculated" by some of the videos about it. So if you wanted a metal phone with a natural cold machine finish feel, this won't be the phone for you.

Myself, I do want that metal feel, but it isn't a priority and won't call them out on coating it. Obviously, they didn't do it trick anyone as they know that wouldn't fly. I am more concerned about the reports of fit, quality, and light bleed. I am still trying to be objective, but it is getting harder and harder. I want to like this phone and LG is capable of making a very nice phone. It could be just initial runs of production and other phones are fine. I could see them not admitting something like that as those bad ones will vanish in the flood of good ones.
