Looks like the LG G5 isn't actually made out of metal on the outside...

Okay, I'm starting to think that LG needs to explain why there's a lot of plastic in this thing.

I don't think you need that much for antennas.

And yes, that's JerryRigEverything's G5. He scratched off more plastic.

Wow, the LG hate is intense. Samsung owners have become more militant than iPhone users around here. I do like LG phones and I also like some Samsung, Motorola, HTC, etc phones. I buy what works for me. You guys are working to hard to find problems with this phone.

It is no wonder that AC has held off putting out a review of this phone. They are waiting to see which way the wind blows with majority of their Samsung visitors, or face being lynched in the town square for going against them.

Okay, when a company says we have a metal body they are not talking about internals lets just get that understood. LG wanted to jump into the premium material build for their phone so that means Aluminum and or Glass being involved or other high end alloy, wood etc... When a manufacture says we have made a metal body phone for you I expect the likes of HTC, Apple, Huawei and others etc....

So are cars not made of metal because they're covered in paint?

Android Central tends to be far more Nexus focused. Though there is definitely a large vocal Samsung group. This year however I do think they have something genuine to shout about.

wow you went there, phone and car two different things one is actually made out of aluminum and steel through out paint is not plastic at least on my CLA-45 it isn't so not sure what car you drive where its advertised one way but get it and its cheap peeling plastic. Again a phone and a car are different lets not go there. You can have your opinion but so can I and if you advertise as the first all metal LG phone and people are exiting a feel of metal not plastic then you have done a disservice no matter how you may try to spin it. Oh just went out to the garage and ran my fingers across the hood and yeah its cool to the touch and metal so the paint did not take that away from the vehicle also ran my hands across the lawn mover the top is plastic and yeah it felt like what it is.

When you can scratch the heck out of a phone and find that nothing but plastic comes off it, it's not "working hard to find problems". You should be annoyed that LG advertised the G5 as an all-metal phone when it's actually a metal phone covered in plastic.

BTW, if you watch some of the videos about the G5, there's gaps between the module chin and the phone and there's terrible lightbleed from the screen. Again, those aren't things that require "working hard to find problems with this phone" because those problems are actually pretty easy to find.

And BTW, Verizon lists the G5 as a metal phone. The first feature of the phone reads: "Beauty and Function in Metal Sleek, smooth and simplified. The new organic metal body has a slide-down battery tray for quick, easy swap out and power up. Fingerprint sensor for extra security, micro SD slot for up to 2TB extra storage*." https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...verizon.com/smartphones/lg-g5/&token=cADx7Pbp

I've actually been a loyal LG user for quite a while. I owned the G3 and currently have the G4. Loved the G2 and contemplated getting the V10.

The G4 is unfortunately going away soon. That's because this is my second unit as the first fell victim to #BootloopGate. The current unit has started chalking up issues like overheating and failing to receive cellular network signals when other phones on the same network are able to. Given the quality issues with the G4, I hoped that LG would make sure that the G5 would have better quality control, but based on first-impressions, it seems that they haven't really done so, and I'm really disappointed in that.

Just let me be clear. I'm actually not that big on the heavy coat of primer on the body of the phone (now that Ken from LG has clarified it and told us something that made much more sense than some of the marketing material, as usual for me). It's the other quality issues that bug me, especially the backlight bleeding and the rather thin LCD panel that causes the LCD itself to "bloom" when touched at times. I mean, sure. There's more good units out there than bad ones, but those look like a higher-than-normal rate for defective batches, and that doesn't give me confidence.

All I can hope now is that LG takes these quality concerns much more seriously in the future, because a $600+ phone needs top-notch quality. First-impressions are hard to erase and with these videos making rounds, they need to convince prospective buyers that the G5 is actually well-built by making sure future batches ARE indeed well-built.

As for me, I'm actually going to the Samsung camp with the Note 6. I do like LG phones as I think they're absolutely great phones with neat ideas that also strays away from the "mainstream" OEMs. I just think that they really need to take quality-control seriously because the experience with my G4 after 6 months was just not pleasant.

LOL. You guys are too funny. I don't own, and don't want, a G5, but a metal body is still a metal body, whether it's bare, covered in paint, or covered in plastic.

Well, it technically is a metal body.

You just don't feel the metal unlike other metal-bodied phones.

Fair statement. OTOH, it apparently isn't nearly as slippery as other metal bodied phones, so there are advantages. It may not scratch as readily as other metal phones, either.

There might be some advantages, but apparently, the cost is the feel in the hand. It doesn't feel like other metal phones, and as I've heard from users, it's not in a good way.

According to Phil in another thread, if he had not known that he was actually touching the coat of primer and paint rather than the metal surface like other metal-bodied phones like the HTC One M8, for instance, he would've thought that he touched what is probably the cheapest metal he'd ever felt on a phone.

Which makes sense since he's not actually touching the metal surface but a thick coat of primer and paint. I don't understand how this works for a "premium" feel, but maybe we'll find out later.

I don't get it.....I do not spend any time on forums of products that I do not own unless I'm researching buying a product. I have been buying Motorola droids since their second model and just recently decided to get the G5. I took my time jumping ship and did my share of research but not that I'm done I probably won't venture much outside of any LG forums to knock other products. The same was true when I had my droids. I guess I'm different as I generally use these forums for product support.

Regardless of whether you can feel the metal body or not, a large majority of folks out there will be putting the phone in a case. If you really must have a metal body, just go get metal casing for the phone. LG phones have never been known for form factor, that award goes to apple.

I have the g5 and it feels like metal and is cool to the touch....sure...its not shiny like the Samsung but so what. I have yet to buy a phone because it's pretty, shiny, metal, kevlar. I buy a phone because it has the features I like and don't waste time worrying about whether it's a flagship or whether it's worth the price they are asking. If I like something I buy it. If it doesn't work out I buy something else down the road.

Or maybe it's because AC actually waits until they can get, and use, a production phone, instead of reviewing pre-production and/or world market phones rather than US Spec versions.

I enjoy all the forums. I like seeing what all the oems are doing, what worked, what didn't and to possibly get a idea of what features we might see stick around for future releases. That being said I won't jump in and bash a phone I don't have personal experience with or fault someone else for their choice of purchase.

That is a very fair statement. I have seen LG take a beating before and all manufacturers have flaws. I am certainly can not standing up for the G5, as I haven't seen it myself in person. I am interested in owning one and I can't say I don't have reservations because of the reviews.

What I do know is. Some people who have bought the phone have said they don't see the gaps. And they like the finish.Love the phone. The internet loves drama and about 75% of the hype around the quality usually can tossed right out the window. Lastly, I get irritated at the mob mentality. Meaning, some people like you post logical posts and concerns about the quality, where as many are just posting to beat down LG just for the fun it, so they can beat their chest about how great their Samsung phone is. They don't add anything to the discussion, nor have they ever considered buying an LG.

Those are the people my post was mostly directed towards. I also think people need to stand back a little and decide if the flaws are as bad as some would have you believe and this might actually be a very good phone. Much like the "bendgate" problem with 6s, which was a problem, but not a problem. That is the wait and see approach I will take.

Just to let you know.

I don't hate the G5. Quality issues aside, it does look like a solid phone. But with all these quality issues, it's hard for me to recommend it at its current $600+ retail price unless you got a good one like gendo has.

I don't think the Galaxy S7 is leaps and bounds better than the G5 (only in terms of quality based on first impressions), nor do I think the G5 is horrible and nobody should buy it.

The point is, LG needs to sort out the quality issues with the phone. I can live with the heavy coat of primer, but the issues with backlight bleed and the LCD blooming due to the thin glass should definitely be sorted out. First impressions matter and unfortunately for LG, first impressions of the G5 for many ain't so rosy.

I'm sorry. I can't live with primer , paint, or what else can coat the phone. lol. I don't want to use a case to hide a flaw in design. Why would one want to coat a phone so it can be scratched up so easily? LMAO
