Lost photos when moving to external SD card.

So, odd thing happened today and I was wondering if anyone had experienced something like this. I moved my photos over to my external SD card the other day because I plan on wiping my phone soon just to start fresh. I haven't done it yet, Just preparing to.

Anyways, today I went to look for a photo and they are all gone except for 3 random ones (I have also looked with a file manager) . I can't find them anywhere, but the thumbnails are still where they should be.

Where could they have gone? Any ideas?

Root Explorer for both questions. I checked both where I moved them from and where I moved them to. Three random photos are in the directory I moved them to, as well as the thumbnails for all of the photos that are missing.

Well, I was able to get a decent chunk of them back with Recuva...but they were definitely deleted somehow AFTER they were moved to the external SD. I have no idea why or how it happened though. There's still plenty of space left on the card.
