love francos kernel

i had so many problems with light flow being inconsistent - uninstalled/reinstalled, tried different versions, - i ultimately abandoned it and now use Blink. Less features but at least it works consistently.

I've had the same issues. Great when working, but it's often confusing and somewhat unreliable. Not very convenient for flashaholics, either.

Lightflow is working now.

Now I just need to figure out the radio thing.

Kind of new to rooting.

Does this kernel work with 4.02 radios?

It should work with 4.0.2, .3, .4 radios, particularly since very rarely are "new" radios in ROMs. So presumably, the majority of the users out there have .2 radios.

Last weekend I installed the BAMF rom and a couple of days ago, I installed the Franco kernel updater app and used it to install the Franco kernel.

However, even though the app says there is no update available, I feel like I'm not running the latest version.

My first indication is that the Franco updater app says my current version is "3.0.8-franco.Kernel-Milestone-1". Nothing in that version string sounds anything the version numbers mentioned in this thread: "18.6", "16.1", etc.

My second indication is that everyone keeps mentioned governors named "francoturtle" and "francogazelle", yet in the Franco updater app, I only see "conservative", "ondemand", and "performance" listed for the Scaling Governor setting.

Lastly, the recent posts imply that the Max CPU setting should now support up 1600 MHz, yet I only see 1350 MHz as a maximum.

So what gives? Do I have the latest kernel? And if not, why not? I installed the Franco kernel updater app from the market on Tuesday, so it should be the latest, and it claims there aren't any updates available.

Milestone 1 is the latest. Go to market and update the Franco app. If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall it.

If you still do not see those options, you must DOWNLOAD the kernel's zip from the app, then go into CWM/recovery, clear cache/dalvik (just do it, trust me), and manually flash Milestone 1 (it'll be in your Downloads folder).

That should solve your issues.

A lot of the things you're asking about come from the fact that Milestone is the first "stable" version he has released for the kernel. All of the versions previous (the 16.2's and 18.1's you saw) were nightly builds as he was experimenting with things to get the kernel ready for a "stable" version. If you are on Milestone-1, you are on the newest kernel.

I anticipate (might already be the case, I haven't looked) that there will be nightly builds in the future that continue to experiment with the kernel and build off milestone. It's your choice whether you want to install these experimental builds, or just update every time a new milestone kernel comes out, which will likely not be that often.

There was an update to the Franco app, and once installed, I had more options on the first screen. For instance, it now tells me whether I have an nightly build installed, and gives me an option to download the a nightly build.

So, I downloaded the latest nightly, r60, booted into recovery, wiped the Dalvik cache, and flashed the nightly. Now the Franco app tells me I have the nightly r60 build installed.

Now when I go to the OC/UV screen, I have more choices for Max CPU (250, 700, 1000, 1200, and 1350). However, I still don't see "francoturtle" or "francogazelle" in the Scaling Governor choices. All I see is "interactive", "conservative", "ondemand", and "performance". The "interactive" one wasn't listed before.

So why wouldn't "francoturtle" and "francogazelle" be listed? And should my Max CPU choices go higher than 1350? I don't really want to go above 1350, but I saw another post that implied that it went as high as 1600 and if that's the case, I'm wondering why my choices only go up to 1350.

Also, I'm confused by the conflict between the versions mentioned here, such as "18.6", and the versioning scheme used by the Franco app and wiki posts, such as "r60".

The last nightly I used limited it to 1.35ghz, mainly for stability reasons with a piece of script that he uses. Presumably, that is the new "safe" max. His kernel is all about stability and battery life, not necessarily about being a Benchmark King/Queen, so for him, not letting you overclock above 1.35ghz is no harm/no foul.

As for the lack of francoturtle/gazelle, I don't have M1 on my device, so I can't speak if that's supposed to be like that or not.

Starting with night #18, Turtle and Gazzelle were removed because the kernal was "rebased" according to the release notes. In Nightly #18.3, the conservative mode was put back in, but as far as I know the turtle and gazzele have not been re-added.

OK, I guess I'm a victim of bad timing.

Thanks dmmarck, clarker07, and Nechasin.

guys, i have a problem. when ițm using hotplug mod enabled (1350 max, 350 min, ondemand) in 8 hours of standby it takes like 10-12% from battery, but when i disable hotplug, it takes 2-3% in 8 hours. WTF?! Hotplug isnt good for battery?

that sounds wrong I been using hotplug mod for a while and get fabulous battery life on standby. But when I have my screen on I suffer battery drain like nobody's business. I suppose it also depends on which rom you're running and what radios as well. Goto xda n ask franco.

R96 is out; no more francoTurtle. Franco himself said after tests that OnDemand was better so there's no chance for a FT (whatever that latter part means; check G+ lol).

Been using milestone 1. Dislike the popping sound when hanging up on the newer nightlies.

Battery life on my phone is definitely improved with 96. I'll have to try 97 later this is too good to mess up.
