This is my G3 at 0% manual brightness in my kitchen with a large overhead fluorescent light.

Dimming the screen is a necessary compromise that people have to make if they want at least serviceable battery life. Ramp up the screen to a comfortable 70+ % and the battery takes a huge hit. So they're left to looking at a miserably dim screen as a power compromise. Then they talk themselves into believing that 0% screen brightness hurts their eyes it's so bright.
With the G3 you can have either serviceable battery life or a comfortable, bright screen to look at. But not both.

Here are mine same conditions large overhead Florecant light 0% auto off.

At 0%, is yours viewable in an almost completely dark room? It should be very viewable on your eyes.

Thanks guys for all the post and pics. I am now home and with my screen at 0% under a florescent light I can see it fine. I guess I worry to much..need to stop and enjoy this awesome phone..

70% is comfortable? Perhaps outside.

And everyone by now should know that viewing any source of bright light in a dark room is awful on your eye health. This is why movie theaters actually dim the screen and have small lights on around you.

Seems like your compromise scenario is an exaggerated one at best.

Also, I don't think anyone has made the assumption that Duncan and I actually use our phones at 0% in lighted rooms. But it is good for comparison purposes.

I use 50% with auto brightness and its perfect for me

0% brightness on mine is black. I can barely make it out. Anything under 40% for me is too dark. My eyes are not bad. Hope nothing is wrong with my phone. I already used up my 1 new replacement for ATT. Now I would have to get a warranty refurbished one.

I think it's too soon for a refurbished replacement. Would most likely be new replacement.

Also wish the auto-brightness had adjustable sensitivity range. It makes some bad decisions. Would be good if there were an instant widget to override it when-desired. When taking pictures outside for instance.

yes... its sad. i am not happy with my new lg g3. colors are dull and low brightness. not fun. i don't know what to do.

Anyone else think that the brightness settings are fine the way they are? My brightness is set to manual and I never set it over 50% even when in direct sunlight. Indoors I use 0% and outside I average maybe 30-45%.

My screen is blinding a 100% in the dark and is still very much visible at 0%.

I'm writing this with my phone on 20% at night, next to the light of the lamp from my nightstand, and the screen is plenty bright. 0% looks a little gray, and 10 is doable, but 20% kicks.
I get it that the S5 looks more vibrant with its amoled screen, but the phones I've checked in stores are at 100%.
I downloaded this screen, which is supposedly an S5 wallpaper, I looked at it closely from 0-100% brightness, and I don't see anything to complain about. G3 is different but still great.
