M8 GPE root questio

I bought a m8 off eBay that was converted over to GPE. While having a nexus 5 already and enjoy pure Android. Can I root this phone and install Viper Rom to experience Sense 6? Or is it a little more difficult than that? The bootloader is unlocked whatever the hell that means.
