This is possibly the best explanation as to why the M9's camera does not perform as well as its competitors in low light.

Going with a larger aperture could have done wonders for the low light performance and not have to cost much of a loss in detail in the process or relied on using a low shutter speed. It sounds like a larger aperture could have taken full advantage of the sensor in extracting better details as well (if the software is optimized).
