Note 20 Ultra camera 108mp mode is disappointing

You people are way more fun that Pixel People - I gotta order a N20U and join in

Re: Note 20 Ultra camera is 108mp of garbage.

Also, from everything I'm hearing from the YouTube reviewers, Samsung is not letting them put any photo samples because it is not the final software yet. They are supposed to be pushing out an update that updates the software.

Doesn't matter, YouTube is incapable of displaying 108mp files, so it cannot display what disappoints me with this camera.

Re: Note 20 Ultra camera is 108mp of garbage.

I wish we were done with the megapixel wars. I've toyed with the 64MP mode on my V60, and those files are junk just like the OP mentioned with Samsung 108MP sensor. They are just too small for such high resolutions, resulting in excessive electrical interference between photo sites on the sensor. That leads to noise in the image, which washes out finer details. The 16MP binned images on my phone are better in every way when compared to the 64MP.

It is still fair to compare phones to full scale cameras in some ways. For example, the Pentax K1 II full frame DSLR I have looked into is 36MP. The photo sites on that sensor are going to be massive compared to what you get on a phone, which is part of why the details are so good. You'd be hard pressed to find any DSLR over 50MP. So to cram 108 MP on a phone is laughable to those that are into photography beyond "I just want photos of my kids." 16MP seems to be a good sweet spot so far for phones, though 12MP may be better if the sensor size is the same, due to extra low light performance.

This guy gets it. Thank you Mooncatt.

Re: Note 20 Ultra camera is 108mp of garbage.

Tell that to Samsung. They are the only ones making the 108mp sensor everyone is using. They are also saying the 108 is only the beginning and they are already on 150mp... maybe the S21?? Kinda funny that everyone else can make better cameras systems with the 108 than Samsung if you believe the DXOMARK ratings.

Samsung likes overkill. I think they believe people like overkill. I wouldn't be surprised if they go 7"+ screen and a mm or two taller than the S20U. Seems to be the trend. I'll take the N20U size this go-a-round but I hope by next phone they will have mid sized phones available that are top spec like how iPhone does it with the Pro phones and not what they did with the N20. I'll give them credit for the S20+ in that regard.

They also announced a new 50mp sensor earlier this year claiming DSLR auto focus performance and improved low light performance. That may be their flagship sensor next year.

We all definitely get it, Mooncat and yourself probably one notch above or 2 then me or others , but smart phone cameras have come a long way . You can't be disappointed what it puts out its still a phone first , Samsung and other manufacturers have a paid research and development team and years of years experience what can work in a phone or not , simply we cant say that . So I'm sure for most it will get the job done for others craving better results a professional camera way to go .

Re: Note 20 Ultra camera is 108mp of garbage.

Sure you can. My DSLR doesn't fit in my pocket. My DSLR doesn't make phone calls. My DSLR can't play games, take notes, open documents and spreadsheets, good me too my destination, play Pandora...😉

Most cameras can't do that, but Samsung did put Android on a few cameras, they ran games and social media apps just fine. I was even able to put Verizon messages on my camera and send text messages. Unfortunately Samsung exited the camera market.

Re: Note 20 Ultra camera is 108mp of garbage.

Not sure why anyone would ever compare a phone camera to a DSLR. I thought we were over doing that like 5 years ago.

Countless people continue to say there is no need for a camera anymore and some go as far as to say phones have surpassed cameras. The camera market has imploded because people would rather shell out $1000 for a new phone every year to get a slightly better camera experience than buy an actual camera over convenience.

Personally right now I feel the need to carry a camera with me on a regular basis, I've yet to have a phone good enough to convince me I don't need a camera strapped around my neck when I go hiking. Definitely would rather use a camera than a phone to photograph family and pets simply due to quality.

Like it or not, society will continue to compare them.

Comparing cell phone cameras to DSLRs is like comparing chickens to bananas. Both are different and both serve two completely different purposes. There's a reason most smartphone reviewers don't compare cell phone cameras to DSLRs. If you need a DSLR camera, carry one. If you don't, then use your phone.

Re: Note 20 Ultra camera is 108mp of garbage.

There was a rumor earlier in the year of a 150mp sensor device later in year. Maybe the 21 Ultra??
They look to be aiming for Mars with the 600mp in this article.
Maybe the 50mp will go along with it in a three-four-five camera setup and one-inch camera bump.
