[Mac Procedure]: How to Root the HTC Thunderbolt

this looks easy any body is using this root ?
would like to knew if there are any issues with it :p

Did it last night. Longest part was downloading of the files. If you follow the instructions word for word, its as smooth as butter.

Any issues with the 4G data network? I mentioned in the previous page where I am losing 4G data. It goes from 4G, 3G, 1X then ....nada. I had to try to un-root it to get the data connection back.

Unfortunately, it seems to happen only to newer Thunderbolt ordered in the last week because it happened on mine and my friend's Thunderbolt and apparently there is no solution for this.

Root checker

downloaded root checker[by joeykrim] from the market place to verify that i completed this correctly. Yes i do have root access, However...When verifying busybox install it gave back the message

"sorry, you don't have busybox installed correctly! For proper Busybox installation please search for Busybox app by Stericson in the market!"

I was wondering if anyone else had this happen?

Thank you so much for this! This was my first time with an android phone and first time rooting -- your instructions were extremely easy to follow/user friendly. I hope others follow in your steps :) Does this root include the unlocked bootloader that I've been reading about for perm. root? I'm just a bit confused by it all.

Also -- I've downloaded SU, Rom Manager (with CWR), and titanium backup -- I just need to know what the next steps are -- and what you all recommend. (What ROM do you guys recommend?)

Thanks!

I don't recall that being an isssue for me, but then again I never used root checker. My methodof checking for root was to download shootme and adfree. If you can run either of those apps then you are good. If you you need the latest busybox it is available for free in the market.

After you rooted did you see a Skype icon show up?

I can't recommended any ROM's since I don't flash ROM's but the next things I do after rooting are installing Shootme and Adfree. Once I've done that, I use one of the programs in the how to move sticky, to remove some of the bloatware.

lol, I need to stop being a wus about it!

Edit - Wussness has officially ended!

Excellant work from all involved.

That was a great tutorial and I really appreciate your time and efforts to help the Thunderbolt community . It worked just as you said it would and you made it easy. Can't say "thank you" enough to all involved !!!:D Now to read up on some Roms.

4G network connection problem!!!

Thank you Cory.

I am having the same problem with the 4G network not working. The 4G LTE icon will show up, but the Market won't work, data connection doesn't work, etc. Then 3G shows up and everything is smooth.

I also purchased my phone just a few weeks ago.

To answer your question about Skype, I'm not sure... you see, I had it installed myself and so when the backup was restored, so was my installation of Skype.

BUT... I know it is different than the original root because it doesn't have Slingbox and other things that were in the older version.

Please help Cory.

The rooting was smooth and no errors occurred. I'm OCD and so I made sure of it.

EDIT: It appears the 4G will work for a few minutes, but then it will no longer have the vertical bars go from blank to white (below the 4G LTE symbol) and this causes the data network to stop working.

Problem with

i tried doing this but when get to (./adb shell /data/local/psneuter) i receive this message
"./adb shell /data/local/psneuter mmap() failed. Operation not permitted" am i doing something wrong?

Having trouble with terminal (ADB) recognize my Thunderbolt... Says something like "no bus"? Any help? Downloaded everything and followed every step to the T... Thanks!!!

When I follow your instructions for step 1 i do not get a "Zip file" It downloads a html file and I cannot "open it to extract" anything.

Is there a way to unroot and go back to how the phone was exactly at the factory? Or, is that version "gone"? In other words, if I unrooted, would it flash to a firmware different than the factory. I'm just curious.

Incredible thread. Thank you for your efforts.

I am trying to root and I can't get the PG05IMG_downgrade.zip file downloaded. I have tried several of the sites and after an hour of downloading the entire file I get the error "decompression failed" in the safari download list window. I tried downloading to sd card and then after that failed twice I tried a download to my HD with the idea of dragging a copy to the other drive but no go. This was attempted on two separate macs an imac and a powerbook.

What am I doing wrong?

I managed to download file and then transfer to SD card. Everything was going smoothly until I moved the PG051IMG_downgrade to a downgrade folder and then put the PG051IMG.zip onto my SD card. Now when I hit terminal with the ./adb devices
command I get: -bash: ./adb: No such file or directory

I have tried several times w/o success. I'm stuck in the middle with downgraded file. How should I proceed? Can I get back to original or is there hopefully a way to complete the rooting? Getting desperate at this point.

$ cd ..
$ cd ..
$ cd and*
$ cd tools
$ ./adb devices

So im rooted but i don't have skype and my data is crap. Ive re rooted twice and same result. The PG05IMG was removed off the SD card. So any other ideas?
