Did you extract the first file in Macintosh hd? Now only if I can get the second zip to work I would be good. I can't get it to the point of volume up to update.

I can't believe that after all this time, Cory has only been thanked 29 times! I would thank you 10,000 times if I could. These were the best and easiest to follow directions I have ever tried to follow.

I am not exactly a noobie. I used to have a fascinate and played with that a bit. But I just followed directions or did one-click things (mostly one-click things) and hoped and prayed I didn't brick my phone. But I could never get things to work on my mac. So I had to dual boot my mac into windows to get things to work. And that was always a pain. I have had a Thunderbolt since launch and had put off rooting because of the hassle, but I am fed up with the hassle of not rooting.

Thank you, thank you, thank you again, Cory. If I could be so bold as to make one small suggestion. Since some steps you have to sit and wait, and while I waited I liked to look ahead...well, some of the steps get repetitive and it is easy to get lost on which step you are actually on. So, is it possible to edit post #1 so that your bold headings are numbered? That way people can keep track of which steps they are on if they want to scroll ahead and remind themselves of what is coming up.

But great work and thanks again (and sorry for the long post!) :D

You tested to see if you have root with something like superuser app or shoot me app?

You can power off the device, then reboot with volume down and power button held together (takes you to hboot screen with skateboarders - NOTE: before you do this, you should check your sd card to remove or rename the PG05IMG.zip file that may be there). At the top it will say s-on or s-off. If you are rooted permanently, it will say s-off.

Given what you've said, it probably says s-on, so i would suggest just rerooting your device following Cory's instructions again.

After you've finished rooting and downloaded superuser and all that, you can go back to hboot and check if it says s-off (make sure you remove or rename that PG05IMG.zip file if you are not booting to hboot to flash something).

And yes you will lose all your data again when you reroot, sorry. Next time you root, you should download Rom Manager and Titanium backup, these will help keep the time you spend fixing things down, and Rom manager will save your butt one day.
These guides will help you:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...-backup-restore-install-roms-thunderbolt.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/inc...back-up-what-restore-when-switching-roms.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...store-apps-data-when-installing-new-roms.html

Its very important to make nandroid backups with rom manager!

When I go to hboot. I see [s-off]. When I go to update SU it gives me an error saying that something has been placed on my SD card and to reboot in recovery to flash it. When I downloaded an app called root checker it says there is an error with my root but busy box is fine. What is flashing and how do I do it. And will I lose everything again.

Just used this method and I have to say a BIG thank you to Cory. My phone was on MR2 unrooted so I thought that might present problems, but everything went smoothly and without any frustration. I attempted to Auto Root on a PC but I was encountering all kinds of roadblocks. This was actually much more convenient. Thanks again!

I used this method, and it worked wonderfully. I was able to remove the bloatware and make backups. However, I noticed the battery was hemorrhaging, and I took a look at the firmware. It's "1.12.605.6". If I'm not mistaken, that's the old version, right? I would like to update it. Can someone instruct me on how to flash the MR2 while preserving root? Will I have to wipe the device? I'm looking to stay on stock for a little while, but may flash the bamf gb rom later.

However, now my Mac won't detect my phone at all. I don't know what to do. Any Ideas?

Do the auto root for mac. It worked great for me. The video is down but it works great. Trust me its easy as pie. Rooted with bamf love and its great with the 3.0 sense.

I think that happened to me... What I did was toggle through the options and reboot. Found that nothing had changed in terms of root. So I made sure USB debugging was still on and that quickboot was OFF. THen I went through the adb procedure I had just done AGAIN and presto, it went through. Hope this helps.

Go to my second link above and use that method. I did and it worked great for me.

will i lose all things even if they are stored on my SD card? For example, i moved all the apps i could on to my SD card and also my pictures/videos. Will they all be erased too?

Hey all, I'm stuck on section 2 just after step 3. I can get into the bootloader, select it, and load pg05img.zip. The progress bar on the right fills. Then it says checking pg05img.zip and the progress bar fills. Then it should give me the opportunity to start the update, but it doesn't and instead reverts to the original bootloader screen. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
