[Mac Procedure]: How to Root the HTC Thunderbolt

Thanks for the great write-up. I see you dealt with this question back in March, but it seems the link once again does not have the files for step 1. Can you advise on where to get them?

I am running a new iMac on lion. I cannot get my thunderbolt to mount. Have debugging checked, disk drive checked, tried different USB ports all no go. I get the disk popup, click ignore. Still will not mount. Any advice as to what might be the problem?
Thanks in advance. Ed

ps. If I use disk utility I can see the sd card and the phone internal memory but it won't mount. Neither the phone internal memory nor the sd card will show in finder.

i get nothing after the second boot loader it just goes back to the fast boot screen....please help

I'm having that same exact problem i tried re-installing Rom manager and flashing to recovery through clockmod and it still doesn't work it always goes back to that same screen.

Hey I rooted my thunderbolt but I now need to unroot it so i can make a claim with verizon. I tried to use your p c tutorial but adb won't work on my pc after i do cd c:/tbroot and i then enter adb devices it says 'adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operableprogram or batch file. If you could tell me how to unroot using a mac I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Time wait?

Hello, this is my first time rooting a phone and I really liked the step by step details that you gave. I am a little stuck though. I got to the part where it pulls up the bootloader (i think that's what's its called) for thr first time and I clicked the power button then I got to the fastboot part and after 10 seconds it said checking for the pd files.zip and after that it went back to the menu option where it says
fastboot
recovery
factory reset
simlock
hboot usb
image crc

and I have waited about 20-25mins and nothing has happened.. I am wondering if that is normal? or did i do something wrong? should i leave it like this over night??

helppp

its not done from the computer... all you need to do is flash 2 zips in hboot on the phone. The first zip is the MR1 RUU... the second zip returns the bootloader back to s-on (unroots).

Its been a while but if I remember correctly you need to select fastboot or whatever the first option on that menu is to start pushing the zip file.

I am at the start of the ADB commands and it is telling me that no device was found, even though I am plugged in and in Disk Drive mode with USB debugging turned on. Please help!

Try exiting out of HTC Sync on the computers task bar.

Absolutely well written. I've followed the steps to a tee. After I added Superuser, Titanium Pro and so on I rebooted now my tb shuts off and displays the droid under a triangle with an exclamation point in it. Can someone, anyone, tell me what i did incorrectly?

First time root, long time hack, instructions worked perfectly on a Verizon TB purchased 09/18/11 with the lastest pushed verizon bloatware.

Thank Q

This was awesome and I appreciate all of the work. How do I unroot? I really want to see the OTA 2.3 GB update that VZ is pushing out. Thanks for the help.

I'm at a complete loss with this I'm new to dab but it looks like adb isn't getting killed

response would really be appreciated

So if I've already upgraded to the OTA Gingerbread, then there's no way for me to root my thunderbolt using a mac? Is there any way to downgrade?

Any help would be appreciated....

Man I cannot get my device to show. This is as far as I can get:

Last login: Wed Oct 26 08:54:10 on ttys000
Coyote:~ mattbucur$ cd ..
Coyote:Users mattbucur$ cd ..
Coyote:/ mattbucur$ cd and*
Coyote:android-sdk-mac_x86 mattbucur$ cd tools
Coyote:tools mattbucur$ ./adb devices
List of devices attached

Coyote:tools mattbucur$

Don't know if it matters but I have the 1.70.605.0 software currently installed.

EDIT: Deleted the easytether file from my mac and finally got the it to recognize my device.
