Made in China :(

I don't want to buy anything made in Korea. Korea throws up artificial trade barriers to American agricultural products. The Koreans can sit on their thumbs and spin. China, on the other hand, generally clamors for American products. I do like Girls Generation, though. I mean I really like 'em. Really.
If American productivity is so low then why does BMW, Toyota, and others want to build factories here. True, that action placates American political interests, and other considerations, but those companies will tell you they generally have no major problems with American workers.
What with high wages and environmental issues it is comparatively expensive to do business in America and Western Europe. China is even starting to outsource to Vietnam.

because its cheaper to have the parts delivered here and assembled, rather than shipping a completed car...plus they get tax benefits as a result

If you care at all about human rights you might rethink your stand on China. If we didn't care about our environment today and the next generation, and what they inherit for their environment. We would be pretty Damn selfish by destroying the benefits we were given with regard to a safe and healthy environment.

I care some about human rights, but I think that employers in American care no more for them than what has been mandated by government and domestic public outcry. As far as the environment, consumer goods are going to be made somewhere. There was a time when Europe and America made things and paid no attention to the environmental consequences. To now hold China to a different standard doesn't seem right to China. It is like Europe clearing their forests, but now expressing concern about Brazil clearing its forests.

I do agree with the tax benefits (both being excused of property taxes and avoiding tariffs), but productivity relates in part to "cheaper".

Next time you get a day of sick pay, a paid vacation, get paid overtime, have your Doctor, Hospital bills, Dental, and Vision care paid for by your employers insurance plan, go to work knowing your workplace is relatively safe, collect a pension check, and have the peace of mind knowing a piece of machinery you are using is safe and won't kill you, please thank Union members who are responsible for all of those benefits we all enjoy. Union or not. Also don't forget that our economy is better when more people have good paying jobs, not fewer. Why? Pretty simple. The middle class spending their paychecks creates most of the demand in our economy which in turn creates jobs. I'm a proud middle class job creator.

I was in a union for a few, thanks for the nice information you provided us. May we help keep America strong !

I disagree. Non union companies used to pay better and had better benefits when they had to compete with unions to keep their best employees. As union membership declines due primarily to trade policies which ended import tariffs, that competition is gone now so wages are declining as compared to inflation. Less disposable income for the middle class means our economy suffers. Strong unions keep wages up for everyone and that's a good thing for the US.

I noticed that unions pay less, but they have cheaper benefits, but no. union jobs pay more.

Unions tout their benefits in lieu of pay

Really? Wow! Understand, that if you get rid of unions, we will slowly be back to what it was like before unions. Collective bargaining is the employees only chance to ward off everything going the employers way.

Please, people! Or as 85 would say it, "Child please!"

Unfortunately, most of the electronic products we use every day are made in foreign companies. But they work, have affordable prices, and most have great reputations for high quality. And many of those that are still made here contain parts that were made overseas. So enjoy your products and stop b****in'.

By the way, most of the so-called "foreign" vehicles are manufactured in the U.S. now; or at least assembled here. For instance, all but two Nissan models is manufactured here (they have three HUGE plants and employ many thousands of our workers).

Do how do you explain non union companies like walmart offering those things when unions have ZERO bearing on how they do things?

Walmart has caught a bad rep over the years, as far a retailers, no one pays more than they do except home depot.

Meanwhile, kroger, the union retailer - pays less than anyone else.

Kroger starts all employees that started after 2009 off at minimum wage.

Walmart on the other hand only pays the door greeters 8 an hour.

Cashiers 9, while kroger is at 7.25

How's that for a union? Lol

I think the real issue is we can have both union and non union as we have currently. but for someone to nock union labor deliberately try to destroy it because they resent the skilled labor industry and what they mean to American labor is down right wrong... Just sayin :):p:thumbup:

Unions are democracies. The collective bargaining process allows its members to decide if they want more pay or more money going into their benefit package. Comparing the hourly wages of Wal-Mart and Krogers is irrelevant. The full time union members at Krogers have much better benefits because that's their choice. If enough of them wanted to, they could give up some benefits to get a higher wage. If things keep going the way they are and we don't change our trade policies, we'll all be making $8.00 an hour as greeters. Yes I enjoy the electronics I buy that are made overseas but I don't enjoy 9% unemployment and people losing their homes because the good paying jobs they had went to China.
Edit: BTW. I am not a union member

Unions IN THEORY are democracies.

In actuality, union leaders are doing what they want.

Look at all the people at kroger, vast majority of them are on some type of government assistance. Why?

Kroger doesn't want to pay.

Unions are powerless essentially. A company won't provide what they don't want to provide
