Major Bionic Issues, Anyone else?

Re: very disappointed with bionic

haha same here... have the tour resting peacefully in my desk drawer now. Every time I open that drawer and see it I love my bionic more :)

Is it in decent condition? Throw it onto ebay! I've looked and used ones are going for a decent amount of money for a phone like that (upwards of $50, which really surprised me). I plan to do that this weekend.

I could, but I have no other backup phone and I like to keep one, just in case I break/lose the bionic I can quickly use something, ya know? Kept my old LG Voyager in similar storage 'Just in case' for a long time, until my buddy broke his phone and needed one so I just gave it to him a few months ago.

Same...I can't believe anyone even considers the BB Tour on the same level as the Bionic. I was so tired of that phone and all of it's problems. Seriously...10 minutes to boot up a phone is ridiculous!

Verizon called me about the dropping apps thing and told me to call motorola and gve me a number. Of course I was on hold for 20+ minutes when the call was dropped. Not happy with Verizon customer service as all they seem to be doing is passing the buck. If Veriz had true customer service for us, verizon would handle the situation with Motorola as Veriz is Moto's customer!! Paid too much for this phone to have p[roblems. Will likely return it and go back to my DROID2 which works perfectly.

I purchased a Droid Bionic after my Blackberry Storm crashed. Compared to that, there's no contest.

When the phone is working, I love it but started running into similar problems that others have posted about. Had some weird issues with booting it up but I thought it might had just been power issues since I ran the battery all the way down. Now today, within a couple of hours of pulling it off the charger, it went to a black screen and wasn't able to bring it back up. Tried plugging it in and the buttons light up and the audio cue "Droid" goes off twice for some reason. Attempted to pull the battery and the sim card like others have suggested in the thread. Still the same problem. I can see the green indicator light blinking but I cannot bring the phone back up. Every now and then the "Droid" cue will go off, I guess, meaning that its trying to boot again.

Also had an issue with the 4G and 3G dropping completely about an hour before it went to the black screen.

I have not had the issue with apps dropping though all I've put on it so far are a bunch of games.

I'll be bringing it back to Verizon tomorrow and hopefully I just got a defective one.

Weirdest thing happened tonight. Unlocked the phone, pulled the notification shade and clicked on a gmail notification, read an email and then went to hit the back button to go back to the inbox, and the phone locked itself! Unlocked it, which put me back into the inbox, hit the back button and it did it again. This happened a few more times before the phone righted itself and started working normally. Very bizarre.

Oddly enough, I heard the phone say "Droid" again while in its blacked out mode. Unplugged it and it came up to the locked screen with the message about it being fully charged and to unplug it. I'm still going to bring it and see if they can replace it. Hopefully the problems crop up again so I can show them.

Edit: While typing this post, the screen just glitched out and half of it faded to a purple hue ...

I'm pretty sure that's the expected behavior when you have it plugged into USB but not in dock (clock) mode. It's just telling you that you can unplug it if you want. I've had it a couple times on this phone and on my D2G.

Fascinating collection of issues on this thread - still haven't pulled the trigger on this phone.
For those returning/exchanging their troublesome Bionic -
If you get the phone via the website, can you return/exchange it at a physical VZW storefront?
Or does it go back/forth thru the mail (leaving me phoneless for a few days?)

Any other reasons why it would just randomly make the droid noise? I've had it say it twice many times now and today while at work, it would just do it at random times.

So far today haven't had any of the issues that I had yesterday. Still going to bring it to the store and see if they'll swap it out just in case.

Lately I have had pretty much none of the issues I had when I first got the Bionic. No more random reboots or lockups like I had the first 3 days.

My second (that's 2!) Bionic desn't have the random shutoff or random bootup like my first Bionic, but the 2nd one continues to drop apps. It appears that apps are dropped only hen the phone is shutdown and then rebooted, as I do when i shut it off at night and then reboot the next morning. SO far the 2nd Bionic phone works perfectly except for the dropped app thing. Verizon called me back and told me they were escalating this condition to another 'team' and would also notify Motorola. I also notified Motorola two days ago and still am waiting for some form of response. I made sure both verizon and motorola were aware that the three problems encountered with my 1st, and 2nd Bionic were not unique
Hopefully the fix (software) will come about in a matter of weeks rather than months. Cross your fingers that we aren't all beta testers for the Bionic!!:'(

The apps that are dropping off after a reboot, are they on the SD card? I believe this is a known issue with the phone.

Didn't get a chance to go to Verizon today but my Bionic isn't doing the random reboots and lockups today either. I did lose 3G access today which came back after I powered it down and rebooted.

I only had 1 lockup so far (about 3 days ago) and none since. I am not sure what caused it or how it could just stop doing that, but I am a happy camper.

I got juice defender and can go 2 days now with no charging, which is amazing! I use my phone moderately (not on it 24/7 but use it throughout the day for phone calls, email and some light browsing/music and into the late night reading kindle app).

Very happy with my device. Decided against swapping it out for another Bionic now that the reboot/lockup has not happened in 3 days.

what settings/profile are you running? custom by chance?
-thx

I don't think it's anything custom since I am not savvy enough to customize it too much. LOL.

I have Launcher PRO EX on there, which has an app killer but I don't use that since on my Droid X the task killer apps also killed my batteries in the past.

I have 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth on all the time. I used to toggle off BT when not in the car but now I just don't bother. :)

GPS is OFF except for the Verizon one. I find the google GPS and weather GPS would kill my batteries way too fast with my Droid X so now I just keep the VZW one on.

Email push is all instantaneous. I have the sync for other apps like my to do list and weather updates set to once every 4h only. But email needs to come through right away for me for business reasons.

I did uninstall beautiful widgets at one point because I really thought that was killing the battery unusually fast.

I don't see the "social widget" bloatware on my phone battery use stats the way that many others are reporting. I know the app IS on my phone and I can't wipe it out (ARGH) but it's not taking up battery for me apparently, which is good! Those who report super short battery life on the battery thread of this board seem to be saying that widget is up some 80% of the time! Yiyeks.

As for apps, I really only have the biggies on (games, words with friends I play a lot), my music collection, FB, some 4 email accounts, twitter and text, GTalk, flashlight, camera, calendars, Pandora, ebay, angry birds, etc etc.
