Major Bionic Issues, Anyone else?

Android phones are COMPUTERS and all computers have compatibility issues from time to time.

You make a good point. They are definitely computers. However, having run PC's since they were the original PC in 1981, I've never seen so many apps "Incompatible".

Just updated my OG Droid to Bugless 2.3.5 and now many apps just aren't available.

I can just imagine the problems with ICS when a Prime comes out with it.

Seems like the developers are either:

A) Not receiving ICS code in a timely manner
or
B) Just figure there will be so few phones on ICS they will just wait and see.

Neither bodes well for the Android Community.

I don't believe any of you're claims..never seen and android with no lag, and second if it was so great this thread would not exist.. Man android sucks..I'm not a fan of steve but yeah apple makes sure there apps are perfect and whats wrong woth that? google market is full af trash..Soo you speak bad about the iphone that works but praise the bionic that has many issues big and small? lol

It's not a clam it's a physical fact and I am not expecting you to believe me. I really don't care what you think. You have your opinions and are entitled to them but so are the rest of us. This thread or one line it exists for every single phone on every single platform because NEWSFLASH! no phone is perfect. Bionic is about as close to it as I have seen. If it had Sense I would be in heaven. As it is I have to make due with Launcher Pro and a Sense theme/widget set.

Go get yourself an iPhone and be happy with it while me and most of the rest of us will be happy on Android.

If you liked the eco on sprint you would had liked the thunderbolt on verizon

Other than Google and the OEM that makes whatever Nexus device it is launched on (HTC and now Samsung) officially no one has access to it until it is released. I'm sure there are some exceptions made to their OHS alliance partners but its not developed in the open so the public does not see the code until they consider it done.

Comparing this to the PC; Windows 7 for example was in public beta for like 8 moths before it was released (a record but older releases did give devs a couple moths had start) . This is possible on the PC because it is usually about 5 years between OS releases. With Android it is 6 months or sometimes less.

Yes I imagine there are also devs who are not in any hurry to get their apps upgraded but also remember that it is not just Android version that they have to contend with but device chip-set, screen size and resolution and a plethora of other differences some of which apply in the PC world some are more unique to mobile.

Apple has it easier because all of their devices have the same hardware and RIM while not quite the same also has a lot less variety in their hardware. In fact the innards of the new BB7 devices are nearly identical and I am sure that was done for this specific reason.

I wont list all of the OEM's, chip-sets, form factors and network technologies Android runs on because none of us really can. You can say the same thing about PC's but that is why Microsoft allows such a large beta window for devs to update their stuff.

I keep my the on 3 g. When I am in a 4g area it goes back and forth and that really uses battery juice. I find it more stable on 3g and it is fast for me. 4g is still having growing paina. Until it is better perfected there will be issues. I like my device too much to cave in on it cause of 3g. I love in a3g area only too

Well after reading several forums I am wondering if I should take it back and just hang on to the old phone. My phone was switching 3g-4g which is ok, then there would be NO G. No data network at all. I lost complete signal in 4g heaven. Then got to work to show the phone off and the damn thing missed a phone call, txt did not come through and I had no 4G at work. I hid things until I could reboot a couple of times. Tried to do a *228 to see if that would help, but said a 4G network card was installed and that this was not needed. My Wife called me while I was on my way to work, phone never rang and the voice mail did not show until I tried to call her. WHAT IS UP with this thing....

I posted this on HoFo, but I figured I'd also post it here.

Does anyone else use the Gtalk application on their Bionic extensively? I can't get gtalk through my work web browser so I rely on my phone. In the gtalk app, I turned off "Allow video and voice chats" and now it's being very sketchy. I will still receive all messages from the people who I'm chatting with, but every once in a while (about once every 2 hours) it'll go on a stretch where it won't send any of my messages. It looks like they sent in the app, but when I check my Chat Logs in gmail, my messages aren't there, and I've confirmed this with the people I'm chatting with.

Has anyone else run into this situation?

Ok, I havnt seen anyone on this threat mention this so here goes: I currently have the droid Charge along with about 30 other company employees...several of my friends also have the thunderbolt.

This data connectivity issue is across the board with the charge, thunderbolt, and now the bionic. What I mean by data connectivity is,,,the roaming from 4g to 3g to 1x to nothing. You reboot the phone and you instantly get a 4g signal for an unknown period of time and then its starts going thr the same cycle again. I have had this problem in Dayton Ohio back in the spring when it was a 3g area only and now since we have had the 4g "Upgrade" yeah right.

On my droid charge I will also not receive txt, my txt will not be received by others (despite a confirmation of delivery). People will call my phone and it will not ring, will sometimes send the caller straight to voicemail and sometimes not even register as a missed call on my phone.

The above noted problems seem to be across the board with verizons new 4 g phones. Even on the days that your phone seems to work halfway decent, you have to keep it locked into cdma mode so that you can get a full days use out of the battery.

If you are within the 15 return time for the bionic, I strongly suggest you do so and reactivate your old phone. I am not hating on android, verizon, or anybody else,,,just what I have seen across the board. Although, I should be hating on verizon. After many contacts with them; they are acting like it is the individual phones problem...I believe they are aware of the problem and they know it is huge.

Dont get locked into to a nightmare like i did with the droid charge. I was told everything from ...its that individual phone, to there is an update coming out soon to fix it, to "once your city recieves 4g all these issues will go away..

Please dont take my word for it....look up the droid charge, and thunderbolt forums...not trying to sell anything here.

Have you tried removing the SIM card for at least 30 seconds and restarting the phone to see if the issue persists.

*228 does not work on a 4G device (in fact if it does not immediately disconnect you like it is supposed to it can mess up your phone), removing the SIM card accomplishes the same thing a *228 used to.

I would try the same trick as I suggested to the person above. Removing the SIM card for 30 seconds forces it to disconnect and reconnect to the network and generally fixes connectivity issues.

If that does not work there are many possible causes of your connectivity problems. If it is very important that you don't loose signal you can force 3G by going to Menu > Settings > Wireless Networks > Network Mode and select CDMA only. I know that wont fix the 4G issue but your connectivity should be more reliable.

Thats fine that you don't believe me..they all lag, period...and I said before I don't have an iphone, I just think it's pitiful that a phone of this caliber comes out and has MAJOR BIONIC ISSUES. And the ratio of problem threads between android, ios and wp7?...android forums are overwhelmed with problem threads. and that is a fact.

You don't want to be dialing *228 ever on a 4G phone. Surprised reps aren't telling their customers that. They told me

I was having the same problem and exchanged my phone right away. I can't say if the same issues are happening again, since I just got the new phone last night.

I had the same exact data connectivity issues with my DX, D3, Inc2. They would all occasionally lose 3G and data. They would either pick it back up themselves, or I would be forced to try the airplane mode route, or reboot. I've had none of those issues on my iPhone. Now I'm not bashing Android at all. I want to switch back (actually have a slightly used Bionic that I haven't activated yet), Android is SO MUCH more fun and can do so much more. But some of these issues are making me want to stay with the iPhone - because the most important thing to me is reliability. I can't go missing calls or important emails for work.

The apps that are dropping off after a reboot, are they on the SD card? I believe this is a known issue with the phone.
I have about 20 apps that I have added and installed where-they-may. I didn't change locations. OF the 20 13 have at one time or another been "lost". This 2nd Bionic has shutdown/lockedout only once in the last week. I did the remove battery thing and all ok for the last few days. Verizon called me and told me to contact Motorola. I immediately called Motorola and they said to contact Verizon. BOTH COMPANIES JUST LIKE TO PASS THE BUCK RATHER THAN ADDRESS REAL PROBLEMS. My next phone will not be a motorola or with verizon.

Well it happened today. The Bionic went back. For good this time. I ended up exchanging the phone again on Monday. Yesterday the phone rebooted on me twice and this morning it was not on. Had to pull the battery to get it to power on. That was it for me. Maybe ill come back after an update, but at this point, for me, the phones not reliable enough. Guess im back to the waiting game for another month for a new phone.

All of them don't and never will work right. Every android phone since the og droid has had major issues and they keep getting worse with every new model. If you want reliability and security get away from anfroid...seriously

Not true, get the SGSII. Best Android by far. I left Verizon for this and am SO glad.

PS. Never buy a phone on a promise from a manufacture or carrier. Look at the Xoom "4G".
