Just got Thunderbolt. I'm setting up the Hotspot and have it working. Like it so far. Does anybody know how to manage the users and add my laptop as an allowed user? I guess it similar to WiFi adding allowed mac addresses.

The VZW ThunderBolt Mobile Hotspot doesn't have that kind of fine grain management. All you really have to configure is the SSID, Encryption Method and Passcode.

Yeah, if you save the SSID and password on your laptop, it can connect when you turn on your hotspot. That's what I have setup on my laptop.

When I open the mobile hotspot on my tb, it has a place to click that says manage users. I have to click it before I turn on the hotspot to edit the options though. If I turn hotspot on first, I can't edit the users

Ahh... I never looked there! I thought that was for kicking users off after they were connected. Can't figure out how/if you can set any MAC address (or similar) restrictive options though.

Thanks Frank, but I don't get any options to edit the users. It's either check "allowed users only" or nothing. Warning Window pops up "Only allowed users can connect to the Internet" OK or Cancel. Even tried setting max connections from 1 to 8. no difference.

Whenever i set it to allowed users only, whenever i try to connect with the computer and the pop up comes up, i enter the password, then click on manage users on the thunderbolt, it has a list of "users" with a check and an x...

Is this what you are looking for or am i way off?

edit: just noticed it also comes up at the top with the wifi symbol and exclamation point notification: connection request with options to allow.

That Worked

Thanks. That did exactly what I wanted. Now only my laptop will connect.
Thanks again,
Vince

I used Mobile Hotspot again today. My dad has an iPhone and an app needed to update. It said it was too large and to either connect to WiFi or use the computer to update.

He doesn't have WiFi and his computer, which is old and slow, wasn't hooked up because of house renovations.

So he used my Thunderbolt as a hotspot and update his app! Was fast and worked great!

I'd like to know how much mobile hotspot will cost after the free trial is up.

Cool story bro... (or something like that!) :D Especially the iPhone part :)

I'm guessing $20 will get you in the door. We'll have to wait and see. I need it enough that I'll have to pay pretty much whatever they want. I use it in my business all the time.
