Maps Navigation by Google

Quick question. Has anyone experienced a problem with Google navigation "searching" for GPS? Sometimes it works as advertised, other times it will search, and search, and search and search and never find it. I noticed most of the problems since the new maps app update. However, I uninstalled the updates and went back to the previous version. Experienced same problem of " searching " for GPS. I then reinstalled/updated to the newest and current version to my navigation working 50% of the time again.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Try tightening the screws in the back of the phone, my gps started acting up randomly and that fixed it right up. I now have instant lock.

Thanks for the help. Where exactly are the screws and how many?

Never mind. I found the info on Google. I will tighten the screws later today. Hope it works!

You can also take a look at GPS Test: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&token=t4vTOIMw to make sure you're getting a good lock independent of the Maps app.

I don't remember if the free version has this capability, but in the paid version you can reset the satellite database which may also help.

Ok. I tried to tighten the screws, but they were already tight. No fix there. I downloaded the GPS app, but had no idea how to test just one app. My GPS signal kept flashing saying it was searching for a satellite. Once I stepped out of the house, my GPS tester said 23 in view, 19 in use. My GPS locked on almost immediately. Out of curiosity, does having a case on my phone prevent my GPS from locking on or give it a weaker signal? Also, once I went back into the house, I still had a lock, where as before I did not. Confusing! I tried to attach a screen shot but couldn't figure out how.

Phone has to SEE satellites to lock on to them.

Any GPS will have a hard time locking on while inside a building. GPS is meant to be used outside.

^ What he said...
GPS is intended to be line-of-sight - since you can't see the sky from within your home, neither can the GPS receiver in your phone (a simplistic answer but accurate for our purposes). Once you stepped outside it sounds like you had a great lock (23 satellites is very good), so I'm not sure what your Google Maps issue is, unless you're also starting your navigation from within your house.
BTW, it may seem like once you walked back into the house, that the satellites remained locked, but those locks will degrade over time.
Edit: BTW, having a case on your phone shouldn't affect your GPS reception (unless you're using an EMP-hardened case )

Thanks for all the help. The majority of my problems were when I was driving and it could never lock on. As for trying to lock on to a satellite inside, grrr......I'm a bonehead. Lol

Your problems locking on while you're driving may have to do with the location of the phone. I use a windshield mounted car dock (which provides a good line-of-sight to the sky) and never have any problems. If you're just laying the phone inside the car, on your center console or something, that's probably your issue.
