March Update for the Nexus 5X: Not Just A Security Patch

Got it today and the first thing I noticed is the vibration motor has more of a quick thud than a buzz/rattle when typing. HDR shoots quicker and it seems to focus faster as well. I was very happy with it prior to this update, so this was just icing on the cake and for a phone that was just $55 more than a Moto G, I couldn't be happier. Oh yeah, the new cooler screen option is another nice bonus. It's probably time to sell the G4 and N6.

LOL As soon as I complained the update notice appeared. So far so good. The screen is actually a little more vibrant/brighter then my Moto X Pure despite the lower resolution

Same here. I knew that would happen. The phone is very snappy and responsive after the latest update. However, my issue was that it would be fine after a reboot and cache clear, but would begin to bog down to the point of being painful to use after a couple days. We'll see if this improved performance lasts. I have my fingers crossed though, as it feels faster now than it ever has before.

How's your battery life guys. When I bought the phone I was well over 4 and a half hours SOT on the average, then is started to worsen esp. after the 6.0.1 update and now I can barely make 4 hours. Not a huge deal with the fast charging but I'm still pretty sure there's a leak somewhere.

After the March patch on my 5X, it suddenly does not charge from the USB on my PC anymore.

When I plug it in, it says "charging rapidly" for about three seconds and then switches to not charging at all. I know there were some issues with non-standard USB A to USB C cables but mine is a respected "Kanex" cable and it worked correctly before the patch.

Charging from my charger still works normally.

Hardware failure (your Kanex cable) can happen at any time. Having it happen somewhere around the time that something else happens often presents us with a red herring. I'd try other "respected" cables....

Yes I accepted the update from Google and I'm on VZW's network. No issues.

No noticeable battery difference here. I pretty much limp home on 15% and have to plug in to my quick charger for a few minutes to get through the evening, then charge it up at night. An Android 2700 mAh battery isn't going to last long even on M. I'm sure N will be all the rage and people will tought how much longer the phone lasts blah blah blah. It'll never last as long as a single manufacturer controlling all of the apps and the software.

I still have to restart my phone every 2-3 days as I can feel overall responsiveness degrade. Crossing my fingers for Android N to not have this issue.

I maybe can feel it starting to slow down again too. Also battery life is still terrible - 2 hours of SOT throughout the day and I barely make it home with any juice remaining. A factory reset may be in order...

Have you tried Safe Mode first for a day to see what kind of battery life you get? Maybe you have a 3rd party app that isn't playing nicely with the OS?

If you do end up doing a FDR, be sure to FIRST disable the auto restore feature in the settings>>>backup & reset screen. If you leave that enabled, you run the risk of reloading the same problematic configuration....

Lately I'm noticing more delays and a first time crash of the camera. Also recording video has popping sounds. Not sure if that is a hardware or software issue.

Glitch or runaway process. Reboot should have stopped it.

If it happens again, you will have to search for the culprit.

Sometimes this only happens before a reboot AFTER installing an update. You don't have to, but I always purposely reboot after installing an update. I also wipe the cache partition, but I'm a little OCD....

I have owned my 5X for 5 months - I have never experienced any of the issues that some others have noted. This is a great device - you will enjoy it.

Be aware, you won't get a newly manufactured device. I just got mine new from Google and it was from 10/15.
