marshmallow update question?

[AC Question]

I have an unlocked version HTC m8 phone and my carrier is at&t. I have the HTC sync manger on my computer & it let me know there is an update for the marshmallow thing but it is for version users. So my question is can I do the update or will it mess up my phone??
