Maybe Froyo 2.2 next week?

I highly doubt six months, I would be surprised if we don't see it in june or august. in six months I plan to be sitting around waiting for gingerbread

I work in the Cellular dept at a Electronics Retailer in the Philly area, and yesterday was visited by 2 of our Verizon reps. The purpose of the visit was about an upgrade to our internal software, but they also mentioned that next week was a "BIG WEEK" because of the launch of 2 new Android Phones running the new 2.2 OS. I asked if they were also going to announce 2.2 for MotoDroid and he said "I'm pretty sure they are, and that Adobe was going to be a major presence at the launch."
HE had a Droid as his personal phone (most VZN tekkie-types have a Droid, I've noticed) and he was very interested in Froyo himself.

Certainly not anything close to official, of course, but hopeful, just the same

Only thing that worries me about that is that all of the early Droid X, and Droid 2 units that are shown on engadget and whatnot this past week were all running 2.1 with some rendition of MotoBlur.

So if they release with 2.1, I think it'll be some time before 2.2. I hope they just have 2.1 because they're earlier demo units just now being leaked or something.

So we all know Verizon has an event planned for Wednesday of next week to show off the "next generation of Droid" and they will be on stage with Adobe and Motorola. The Droid X will be unveiled officially and maybe even the Droid2. Do you think we'll see Froyo for the Droid1 released at this event? I mean, it sort of makes sense when you think about it since Adobe is at the event, right?

I could see them saying, "Don't worry, we aren't forgetting the Droid that started it all. Today we are starting OTA updates for the Droid, capable of full Adobe Flash".

I don't know, I'm being hopeful What do you all think?

That would be nice.... but let's not expect too much from Motorola or Verizon.....

Well, I think they will both launch with 2.2 for a few reasons.

One: Why release a phone with 2.1 when 2.2 has been officially announced? 2.2 has been testing for the Droid for a few weeks now, so I am sure VZW and Moto want these two new Droids to launch with it.

Two: On the home screens for these two new Droids (Droid X and Droid 2), we have seen the little Android "Help Tips" icon/widget. Why would that be there unless is was 2.2?

Three: Adobe is supposed to be at this event. Why would they be there if 2.1 was launching on these devices? Flash only works on 2.2.

Four: On the latest AndroidCentral Podcast, the consensus was that they would launch with 2.2...I know, the weakest of my arguments but Phil, Mickey, and Jerry are usually right

I still believe they will launch with 2.2. The post that accompanies that picture explains that the reps said it would most likely launch with Froyo. But, we shall see!

Uh, no. Consider the last time source was released and how long it took to get the update for the Droid pushed out (as well as the time before that). I don't see how Adobe's attendance is germane to the release of Froyo for the Droid.

You guys should try cyanogenmod before the official FroYo, they have really nice ROM's.
