[MEGATHREAD] How do I turn on "Connect to URL"

A

AC Question

When sent a web address via text message, I cannot connect to it and instead get the message above. However, when I go to 'settings' on my LGG2, there is no option to turn on URL. Can anyone help me to be able to open web pages sent via text?

Welcome to Android Central! When you say you have Connect to URL turned on, you mean in the Messaging app's settings, right? What happens when there's a URL that's sent to you in a text message and you tap it?

This is an Android forum, so you may not be able to find much help here for a flip phone. It has a browser? If it does, it is likely a very basic browser, so it might not be able to handle a lot of more complex sites.

Re: how to connect to URL in a text msg in my LGL125DL

There's some sort of browser, but I am having trouble typing anything into it. Maybe I should look at the manual again, but I couldn't find anything about connecting to URL the first time I looked at it, or even how to click on a URL. I did find the "connect to URL" in the settings and it was turned on. The problem is that my Amazon account is sending a security link (in a text) saying to click on this link in order to log in. But I cant click on it so I am being locked out of my account.

Re: how to connect to URL in a text msg in my LGL125DL

Here's what I did. It's not official but best I can recall. I hope it helps someone else because the phone is not yet very searchable on the internet. However the manual is fairly detailed but doesn't do much for this problem.

1. View the text message that has the embedded link
2 That will bring up a screen that has the cursor in a box ready to type a response
3. Use the up navigation key to move the cursor out of the response box and highlite the whole message -- it will show up with a blue box around it
4 press the view button -- now you will see only the embedded link in blue rather than the whole message being highlighted -- this assumes that the embedded link is at the bottom of the message -- if it is in the center then use the up navigation key to move the cursor up toward the link until the link -- and only the link -- is highlighted in blue
5 now the center "ok" button should be identified as "Reply"
6 use the up navigation key to move the cursor upward until the link -- and only the link -- is highlighted in a greenish color
7. Now the center "ok" button should be identified as "open" so press it to automatically activate the built-in browser and go to the link -- after responding to a security phishing item that the phone displays

Recall that "connect to url" must be turned on in the phone before doing all of this

That is the procedure as I recall it I haven't retested it so it's the best I have right now

Connect to URL popup to see Instagram in text

I have a LG K51. My friend sends me links to Instagram and every time I click on the link, I now get a pop-up: "Connect to URL Note that unknown Web address (URL) can lead to phishing attempts, personal data leakage or damage to your phone. Make sure that this URL is safe." I then have 3 options: Cancel, Search and Connect.
How can I stop this pop-up as it is really annoying.

Re: Connect to URL popup to see Instagram in text

I'm not sure if this is an Instagram thing or an LG thing. I don't use Instagram, so I'm afraid I can't test it.

How are the messages being sent?
This kind of warning seems like something a messaging app would show, or maybe the web interface to an email server.
