Memory Issues

Can't figure out how to edit post using AC forum app but reboot fixed it however it's still the same, using the screen as flash causes more delay in taking picture
Thanks ya I just did it. but now when I'm going to selfie camera app crashes...shocked. regular rear is fine but front facing forcing app to terminate.

I was going to recommend a reboot but figured you probably had done it already.
I believe using the screen flash does cause a delay but I would not know if yours is is too long or normal. I avoid using a flash at all times except for very rare occasions.

Thank you I turned flash off and it fixed my problem now taking selfies and wow without the flash they come out amazing in very dark area

If you are in a dark area try using the selfie camera, my device can't handle it...I didn't change many settings in camera just added hdr plus

Yeah if you have night shot camera u don't need the flash unless it's very dark but I never have flash on front or back.

I havent experienced any real memory problems related to apps, i can go back to an app open 5 prior and it generally remains in same spot (i.e. Youtube, websites, news feeds) but not all like Instagram which was same on iPhone. But im a light-medium user, i maybe use 5 apps in a day and do most my stuff view browser. So far coming from an iphone 7+ its great, the speed is absurdly fast and rarely hiccups.

The adaptive battery program is the culprit which can be disabled by app or entirely.

See, this is how I originally had my Pixel 3 set up when I received it. Disabling adaptive battery was the first thing I did thinking the phone would run faster. But I still had the issue with navigation. Then I turned it on and de-optimized certain apps and I had the issue with Youtube. Then I turned it back off and youtube issue stopped, but I didn't bother trying to replicate the original navigation issue.

I think that turning on/off adaptive battery is really just resetting your app usage history, and eventually you'd run into one issue or another after a couple days.

Either way, this all kind of proves to me that the Pixel 3 is under-powered as far as RAM. Sure, they'll fix the software problem with background apps, but honestly, I've noticed that this phone is still slow when multitasking even when it doesn't close the background apps. Using it side by side with my S8...the pixel 3 feels slower when under load.

So I keep asking myself why would I pay $800 for this phone to upgrade from my S8 when the S10 is 4 months away. I'd get the Oneplus 6t if it weren't so large.

It's a safe bet that the S10 will have 6gb of RAM, Android Pie, no notch, and an in-screen fingerprint reader. Also, as seen with the 6t, manufacturers are starting to realize that photo processing plays a large part in camera quality so it's only a matter of time before Samsung starts to catch up.

This is the third freakin year that I passed on upgrading my galaxy to wait on the Pixel. Instead of buying the S9 late again this year, I'm just going to wait for the S10, and upgrading my galaxy every year will be the default, rather than waiting for the Pixel.

Also, it took a 45 minute call with google to get them to allow me to return my Pixel 3 over the RAM management issue without the $35 restocking fee. I am a razor's edge away from just getting the iPhone X. I'm pretty fed up with android as a whole. This is pretty embarrassing for the flagship android device and I'm getting pretty close to just being done with it all.

Mine is working fine so I don't know why you are having issues but it also doesn't prove its under powered by having only 4GB of RAM

I just got mine and I can also report while there are some minor hiccups the overall experience for me has been very good with my pixel 3. This is coming from an iPhone 7+ user with ios12 which was also running very good.

6gb vs 8gb of RAM does make a difference...especially with this being an $800-900 phone when you can get the S9+ with 6gb of RAM for $200 less.

And with optimization that is this bad....

....I think it's fair to say that the Pixel 3 is under-powered given how bad the RAM optimization is. Personally, I also think it's "under-powered" for an $800 phone given how much it costs. Like sure, 180-200hp in a car will get you to where you want to go and certainly isn't under-powered 99% of the time. But if you stick a 200hp engine in a $40,000 sports car, is it under-powered? I don't really want to get into semantics.... I would definitely agree that this phone works 100% fine if you aren't multitasking with video/audio streaming apps, navi, or the camera app.

No one is disputing that you can buy 6 to 8 gigabyte for the same price. That doesn't mean that 4 gigabyte isn't enough.

After the third sponser plug I turned it off

I haven't had any of these issues either. But then I don't listen to music while I'm taking photos.
I'm scratching my head. I want to supportive... But most of the things people do to trip this...I don't do.

I'm a breathe or chew gum type of guy... No high powered stuff AND anything else at the same time for me... Though I do run Android auto, Apple music and Google maps at the same time. Wow! Maybe I am high powered!!! Quick... What are the symptoms? Maybe I caught this issue...

Sorry...a really high %? How can you even know this? The traffic in a super forum is not indicative of volume until you got hundreds of 'unique' users and views. As for the YouTubers... They'll record anything that drives views. There are as many people on this thread asking questions about what this is.... As there are people making a valid complaint. I'm sure this exists... Conditionally. I hope it's fixed, soon. So the You Tubers can move on to a different topic.... Like... This pixel broke when dropped from a 15 for ladder!! Outrageous...

I wonder what a poll would show? How many people are experiencing what they think is a memory related issue? Yes/No
It's impacting a really high % of pixel 3 XL users. Even lots of popular YouTube tech channels are experiencing the same. I wish I was one of those users who didn't experience this haha.

I did on Halloween, and it came out pretty well. Folks complain about the brightness of the screen, but it lit up well enough to light me an my two girls. :)

Well I had the picture/music memory issue today. I was listening to a podcast in my car (Pocket Caster), driving through the neighborhood. I saw a tree that was a brilliant yellow so I stopped to take a picture, and on the second one, zap, Hardcore History (the podcast) was shut down -- the app closed.

Does these memory issues include the double tap to wake screen not to work most of the time. Driving me nuts as I use this function all day?
This was and is an issue on my Pixel 2. Double tap to wake has never worked consistently and I have just given up on it.

As for the memory issue, I didn't even realize it was happening on my Pixel 2 until the reports for the Pixel 3 started and sure enough, I can make apps reload after more than 4 are open. I turned off adaptive battery and apps stay in memory longer which is fine, there's still plenty of room left and I think my battery life is better to. I'm easily getting another 30 minutes a day of screen time.

The only memory issue impacting me is related to front facing camera freezing causing camera app to crash, reboot fixes it. I've played Apple music and used navigation no issues, apps haven't crashed that way for me yet
