merging contacts

Between contacts from my old phone, contacts from my gmail account and contacts from facebook, I have a lot of duplicate contacts. Many have been auto-merged, but many haven't. When I go try to link contacts manually, a lot of times nothing happens. The contacts just don't link.

Anyone else had this problem and have a solution?

If you still have your old phone, I would try to export your contacts (most easily through a CSV file) and import them into Google. Clean up any duplicates on Gmail on your computer, then manually sync your Google account to your pohone. They will then sync to your phone, and facebook should link them automatically.
