Messages app opens to wrong conversation

Often (though not every time) when I launch the Messages app directly (i.e., by tapping the app icon or via the Messages widget; not by tapping a text message notification), it will open up to a conversation in which I do not have any recent message activity, at least not in the past day or two or three. And when this happens, it is almost always the same conversation (there is one other that occasionally opens). Is it odd for me to expect the app to open to either: A) the list of conversations, or B) the most recent text conversation I had opened? I would definitely prefer A but could live with B. However, having it open so frequently to a conversation that I do NOT need or want to interact with is frustrating and causes two extra taps to get to the list (i.e., Menu > List).

Is there any way to make this work consistently as I described?

FWIW, I also have this happen about once a week or so. Not sure if there is any correlation, but I thought I'd at least mention it.

Thanks,
ME

Happens to me all the time... it has almost caused me to send a message to the wrong person....

it's happened/happening to me, as well.

it's quite annoying & i've escaped a few close calls when it caused me to send my plans & details of my arrival to the person i was hoping to surprise last week. i about threw the phone after staring at it with "oh dear God!" eyes and thankfully being told "failed-send" due to low network signal...

hopefully this is addressed--otherwise i'll be headed back to something like Handcent

update: to clarify--i click on a message from PersonA, and a message from PersonB opens.

The messages app does not actually close if you press home so when you press the icon again you go back to the LAST screen you were on in the messages app. You should back out until it closes so next time you back in you are on the messages summary screen rather than in a message.

Well, I have backed out to the message list and then switched to another app, only to return and find an old text message convo open (i.e., one in which I haven't sent/received texts in a week or more). I have also intentionally switched apps while still in a specific message convo because I was planning to return shortly to that particular convo, only to do so and find it opened to the aforementioned older convo with another person (for some reason, when this unwanted conv opens, it is almost always the same one (in this case, it's someone I text with infrequently).

Just doesn't make sense.

Have you tried deleting that conversation just to see what happens? I use Handcent alot so I haven't experienced this I will run the OEM messaging for a few days to see if this happens to me.

Later,
Dave

Happens to me too. I believe it is a known issue. It has to be something with the stock messaging app as I have used many different ROMs and they have all had this issue.
