Happened to me two weeks ago, did the force stop, clear cache and clear data. Did it two more days in a row, it was using 25% of my battery in 8 hours and being active 22-30 minutes. Switched back to Samsung Messages

Yup, my point was that the app seemed to be acting way out of character for me so I ended up going to another app. It seems there are a handful of people that report this issue with Google Messages off and on.

Yeah I tried all of that stuff and it's still draining the battery. I just started having this issue only a few weeks ago.

You checked it after a full battery cycle?

Yes. I tested it out today from a full charging cycle. The messages app is just using way too much battery. It never used 20% before. It's always used like 5% or so. So something is definitely wrong

Look through your message threads and see if there are any recent MMS messages that seem to be stuck trying to download.

I looked through my messages and there was nothing waiting to send. But just as mysteriously as this problem started, today the messages app was completely normal and it's only used 2% of my battery the whole day. So I have no idea what's up lol

Hopefully just some weird connection glitch between your phone and carrier....with all that background time running. Glad to hear it's more back to normal.

Whoah! Glad the situation resolved itself. Strange, indeed. I was going to suggest booting your phone into Safe Mode. Glad all is well now!

Yeah it could be something like that I didn't even think about that. Google fi sometimes has issues connecting to their network so maybe it was just something like that
