Messenger attachment icon

I've got a small but irritating problem with my stock messenger app on my Nexus 4. Running 4.2.1 JB. Ever since my sister sent me a picture via SMS her message thread constantly shows the attachment icon, as if there's a new attachment waiting for me. Is this supposed to be like this? Once someone sends you an attachment, that icon becomes permanent? That doesn't make any sense. Anyone else have this problem?

it means that thread has an attachment. start a new thread and that wont show up
