Just FYI...

Here is the line item for my first VZW billing for use of the paid MHS/MBBC.

----------
4G SMARTPHONE Hotspot 07/07 - 07/13
$7.00
30.00/mo / 7 days on new service
----------

Looks like it really is $1.00/day for those with unlimited access. Also note, even though I signed up 11 days prior to 7/7/11, I was only billed from 7/7/11 (the day the free-demo expired). Thanks VZW.

Also, while clicking around on the VZW site I see they now have an easy setup for configuring when/if to get "data alert" notifications. You can set it at various percentage levels. Looks like the default is 50 percent. This will be very good for those who are not on unlimited.

Thanks Frank, Verizon needs to get it together and especially the way they keep changing the website. After a while MyVerion becomes confusing to locate certain views of items I'm looking for!

Yes, it can be confusing. I'm thinking, regardless of earlier statements, that VZW may not put this unlimited choice on the website. Talk about confusing. Two months from now tons of new users would not understand why they can't get it. I'll bet they leave the Unlimited MHS as a call-in feature. We'll see.

so do you have to call and tell them you need MHS/MBBC for an X amount of days (if you are a unlimited user)

Good to know. I may be adding Mobile Hotspot in the near future if I get this new job in the next few months. I don't think I would be able to handle Netflix streaming from my phone all day. :)

Thanks for reporting on this, Frank. I agree that they will not want to advertize to new customers that the old guard is getting a much better deal. In addition to calling in, in the past, I was able to also add this $30 feature from my phone by opening up the MHS icon. Not sure if that was the case for everyone or if it is still the case.

Thats what i want to know too.
Call *611, tell them you want to add the unlimited MHS/MBBC feature for $30/month. If they try to sell you a $20 plan for 2GB, tell them you want the unlimited plan for $30, which is available to you because you have a grandfathered unlimited data plan (you do, right?). Many reps may not have a clue about this. If so, tell them the code to add to your account is 76153. Any further difficulty, don't waste your time and ask for a supervisor. When you get someone knowledgable, you can confirm with them that this is prorated and can be removed/re-added as needed. But you can't just tell them how many days to add it for; you will need to call back and remove this feature when you're done using it. Never, ever let them sell you a supposedly "better" data plan; make sure you always keep your grandfathered unlimited data plan.

they're probably making it a little bit difficult (like not making it available online) so that some people will just give up and switch to a tiered data plan. even the cheapest tiered smartphone data plan is more expensive than the unlimited (a penny, but still). tiered data is only "better" for Verizon, as with all the other changes they have been making as of late.

I should have put "better" in quotes.

Thanks, Robrecht

Frank just wanted to update your post here instead of starting a new one. Apparently Verizon has added the option to add the mobile hotspot via an on-line option, just checked now in change/add options.

Hmm.... I don't see that on my account yet. Notice that the first dark blue "unlimited" is not for tethering, just the phone. I do have unlimted tethering listed in my "view all features", but I don't see any choice like that here.

Here are my options: (two pics to show all choices after scrolling right)

Frank looked they were running maintenance this morning on the site. Soon as I logged on I choose my line and jumped into the boxes underneath for features and went from there. Should ask about vcast and global navigator at $20.00 and other addon features., if I can grab a screen shot I'll try too.

Yeah Frank looks like you went into change minutes/texts/data, go into change features instead and should be there maybe. Could be cause you've already got it on your account.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I have a choice to REMOVE it. If I did remove it I might see a choice to re-add unlimited MHS. But, I don't want to remove it just to see :)

Edit: See below. I cut off the bottom a little (and the $30 has a line through it) because I get a discount and I didn't want to start any "discount amount" discussions :)
