Has anyone tried to see if their freebie Note 7 256GB sd card will fit into the Note 4?
If I have to downgrade, I am still keeping my Note4!

MicroSD cards have never changed physical size, so yes, it will fit.

SIM Cards on the other hand have had physical size change.

I just got my note 4 today. Put in my 256 GB card in to see if it works. It made it lag real slow. At one point it shut off and would not turn back on whatsoever. I tried everything and nothing until I took out the SD card and it powerd up. Could that be the reason it shut off? It's fine now, but if I have to I'll put my 64 GB card in the meantime.

That is very weird, there may be a file(s) in the MicroSD that it couldn't index and thats why it lagged and shut off.

Thanks re. the index issue. On the flip side people may be listing their 256GB uSDs for sale soon.
Its not like Samsung want them back and besides which most people use the card for personal data
so there would be significant issues sending them back with the cards in.

A useful tip, a write test with H2testW followed by a format takes less than 40 minutes on USB2 and lower still on a USB3 card adaptor.
This permanently wipes any slack space on a given card or full wipe if formatted first, best to use one of the certified SDXC units
as most older laptops and card readers pre 2014 do not support cards this big due to a very stupid buffer overflow problem on the controllers.

I had problems with the 128GB when it first got installed, had to fiddle with it to make it work.
Pretty sure FAT32Format did the trick followed by reformatting it in the phone.
