MMS files renamed upon saving?

[Android Central Question]

When saving MMS attachments thru text, they are given a timestamp by default. Previously the MMS would retain the original filename from the sender (ie: IMG_7592, johnparty, screenshot, etc etc). I'm currently using Textra, but also confirmed this renaming issue with other text apps. Is this something new with Android Oreo? Can this be changed/fixed in any way?

I am pretty sure Textra has always worked that way.
However, on my LG V30, Textra is using the naming convention of "original filename" + "timestamp". For example,
incoming = IMG_2438_20180812_134106.jpg
outgoing = attachment1_20180704_052213.jpg

A quick glance through the Textra settings does not show a way to change this.
