MMS image attachment size

I think I have seen questions posed before about this, but searched and didn't really find anything relevant.

So here goes!

When sending an MMS message, it clearly indicates the limit is 2048k, which is great if you're sending multiple images/slides in a message - I get it...

However, if you intend to send a single image (as is usually the case) I wish it would not reduce the image size quite so much. Taking a 1.5 or 2 meg image and reducing it to 45k is a little much. Is there, buried somewhere, or maybe hackable, a slider/control/setting to customize how much it compresses? I'd say between 25%-50% of the initial size would be sufficient, but the 1/30th to 1/40th initial size is overkill, as far as I'm concerned.

Does another ROM other than the Rooted 2.2 Sense do this? Is there a third-party SMS/MMS app that will provide this functionality?

Handcent which is free in the market will fix it. Otherwise, if you root we also have it fixed in the stock app.

I am rooted with 2.2 Sense stock, but this is still an issue. How does one fix that?
