Why is this happening? Started a few weeks ago out of the blue. Since then I've done 3 factory resets, I've changed messaging apps. This happens in messages from one other person, group messages, people with Android phones, people with apple phones, people on my service (AT&T), people in other services. I have no idea what to try next. Like I said it started out of the blue and I figured I had downloaded a bad app, or had gotten something gummed up. But 3 faculty resets and it is no better. Sometimes the messages eventually come through, sometimes they don't. Any suggestions?

Is your mobile data on? I can't tell by looking at the status bar. As you probably know, MMS doesn't work unless you have mobile data on.

Did you get this G3 directly from AT&T, or was it unlocked from somewhere else? If the latter, you may have to double check the APN settings.

Mobile data is on and I did get it from an AT&T store. I might look around and see if I can find current APN settings for AT&T. Oddly, I realized after I posted the first message, there are at least two messages from folks on a different carrier that I never received - no "MMS downloading" or any sort of notification that I didn't correctly receive their message. They are iPhone users sending pictures which seems to have always been wonky. My first message above is from AT&T to AT&T, android to android, which would seem like the easiest case.

It may be worth bringing it to an AT&T store and asking them if a new SIM card is needed.

I will do that although I may have figured it out. I had tried both Pushbullet and MightyText. That dawned on me earlier and I revoked PB's Google access and had MightyText delete my account. Then, seemingly instantly old messages started coming through. I can't say that was the problem but the timing does seem interesting.

That sure sounds like a possibility. Do you remember if the problem definitely began after you started using one or both of those?

Is that Google messenger? Mine does the same thing from iPhones in GM. I believe this to be a GM issue. I do however, have very poor cellular signal during the day and that's usually when it occurs.

Anything to do with Stagefright protection?

B. Diddy - Best that I can recall, yes, the two things happened in close-ish proximity.

btswein - I almost expect to have issues with messages from iPhones, however, it does happen with Android phones as well. I also switched to some alternative texting apps which did not seem to help with the issue.

TWC42 - not to my knowledge - i.e., i haven't installed anything for SF specifically

Since I removed the two programs, I've only had one issue. However, texting has been light these last few days. The annoying thing is it can go a week without a problem and then suddenly, it goes down the tubes. Fingers crossed I'm back to normal.

So after a couple of weeks of no issues, they came back in these last few days. It does seem to be limited to one group message specifically. I've deleted the group message, cleared cache & data, switched text programs (most of which don't even register when there is a failed message), done a new APN settings, all to no avail. I guess I'll drop by AT&T but I can't imagine what could be causing this issue.
