.mobi .epub file problem

So on my old phone I was able to use moon+ reader and iReader to view .mobi and .epub files (books) Now I have all of the same files on my new s5 and neither reader will detect them. If I go into my SD card and select them manually it will tell me that there's no program on the phone that will recognize them. The readers do work for the 3 preinstalled books but nothing else. Anyone have any idea why?

hmm one possible solution is to upload the epub books to google play books and then you'd be able to read them in that app.

I tried that and it worked but since it only accepts epub I couldn't upload about 3/4 of my books. Regardless of that though, I'm finding I really don't like the google books reader. So I'm wondering if anyone else has any idea why moon+ and iReader won't recognize files on my sd card anymore

hmm switching to internal memory didn't work but Cool Reader can find them(well about 90% of them)! Now I just need to figure out how to change the settings so I can actually read something. At the moment the books display but between every word is the </font></p><p height><font color> crap

Yikes. Epub is built from xhtml and css source but once it's built/compiled the html coding itself is gone. Opening an epub book on the pc in a text editor doesn't show any readable text much less html. Did the books originate as epub or were they converted from something else? I've never seen that but most of mine I converted to epub using Calibre on the PC. Have you tried opening one on the PC to see if another reader has problems?

I use calibre as well since I often switch from my kobo glo to my paperwhite to my phone.

Well I figured it out finally... to a degree at least. Coolreader still gives me that weird text coding(I've never converted them. The formats are what I originally downloaded) and iReader crashes as soon as I open a book but moon+ reader is working just fine. Turns out that the books were being stored in a different location. On my old phone they were in the folder SDcard-> Downloads but now they're someplace else. There is still the same folder called SDcard and it has many things in it(mostly recent downloads). But now there is also a second folder called extSDcard which is located nowhere near the "normal" SDcard folder. I found it pretty much by accident while looking for something else. The confusing part though(other than why there are now 2 SD card directories) is when I go into the storage settings and open the SD card, the directory with all of my stuff in it is still labeled as SDcard. If it was labeled as extSDcard I could have figured this out a while ago lol

anyway, thanks for all of the help!
