Mobile Hotspot is the bomb! Wow!

I finally got around to testing the Mobile Hotspot feature on my Thunderbolt. While I'm typing this on my laptop, I am currently simultaneously making a phone call to Best Buy store, while at same time playing a Netflix movie on my laptop in one browser tab, and also playing a porn video on a different browser tab, and doing a speed test on Speedtest.net and got the following results: 5.84 mbps download speed, and 3.08 mbps upload speed. All of these tasks are happening at the same time, and the Thunderbolt isn't missing a beat!! The Thunderbolt is the bomb! Wow!! I think I'm going to pay the extra $20 monthly for the Mobile Hospot feature after the 1 month trial period is over.

This multi-tasking is working just as well regardless whether I have the Thunderbolt tethered to my laptop via the USB charging cord, or untethered. I tried both methods, tethered and untethered, and both methods work equally well. The main reason to have the USB cord tethered from Thunderbolt to laptop is to help save battery life on the Thunderbolt. I've noticed that when the Thunderbolt is tethered to the laptop via the USB cord, the Thunderbolt is not getting charged any more than its current battery level (eg: 80% battery level), rather the Thunderbolt maintains the same battery level instead of draining any lower.

I repeat...Mobile Hotspot on the Thunderbolt is the bomb! Wow!! :D

LTE is roughly the same speed as my comcast cable modem. Once VZW allows us to pay for unlimited hotspot LTE (or there is a reliable work around with rooting) there is really no reason to pay for high speed internet.

Man if I had 4G at my house I would so do that.

I agree that $20 monthly for only a measly 2GB of monthly usage for mobile hotspot seems a bit high. I'm sure we can all blow through 2GB in just a matter of hours! Yikes!

I'm loving it. Sometimes I lose my 4g signal but it's been happening less and less.

Been connected for the past 3 hours, and it disconnected once.

Used to be a lot worse. So I have hope Verizon will fix it.

once in 3 hours isn't bad at all. I get disconnected from my land line cable modem + wirelss router every once in a while as well.

Good to hear that it doesn't seem rampant...haven't tested it for more than a few minutes yet. So frickin fast...woo

You do realize that twenty bucks only gets you two gig. That would last a few hours at my home. Lte will be tiered and most definetly more expensive than a home connection.

You also need to factor in the latency lte has.... it makes the browsing experience feel sluggish.

Reread my post. I said "once VZW allows for unlimited hotspot LTE use" which they will eventually. It'll be like the normal internet when you used to pay by the hour with AOL then it went unlimited when the bandwidth caught up. There isn't enough latency where I am (I'm sub 100 ping) where I'd feel the need to pay for a cable modem but if you are a gamer or something that may be different. You also have to remember that LTE-advance will be even better in a few years. My advice: short cable companies.

I tested hotspot this morning. I wasn't watching any porn videos or Netflix (I'm not saying I don't but I wasn't at that time), but I was downloading videos simultaneously on TB and on my netbook. The download rate was faster on my netbook for some reason. And it really does a number on TB's battery so it is better to keep the charger plugged in.
