Modded xoom dock (usb host)

Cool thanks for this. This may be out of topic but would it but possible to make a two sided cable that is used for data transfer on the Xoom? What I wanting to figure out if it is possible to make two sided so I can hook up to the xoom to my Evo 4g to allow cable tether instead of wifi? Also be curious if this would work.

Old postings, but the question I have is if the HD dock is using the usb port for audio, how come we can't use usb earphones? Does anyone have a pinout diagram so that this might work for headphones?

Do you mind me asking why you would want USB headphones? I've never heard of such a thing, and I can't imagine how it would be more convenient that using the headphone jack on top of the device.

I'm just curious, not trying to argue or anything.

I guess I'm just curious is all.

Okay, cool. It didn't make any sense to me, which is why I was asking.

I have only used headphones a couple of times, and I can tell you the last place I would want the headphone jack is on the bottom.

This is a pretty old thread, but I figured I might as well ask anyway...

Since the price of the Xoom and accessories has dropped dramatically, I recently picked one up on the egg and a standard dock on amazon for around ten. Just like most on this thread, I couldn't believe that moto didn't design a female plug on the back of the dock (how much easier would it have made things if they had put a simple female microusb on the back?).

Anyways, I quickly stripped an old usb cable, popped off the dock cover, and wired her up in regular USB mode (non-host). I did add an additional wire plug from an old cordless phone battery pack and connected it to my brown and black wire -- this way I could easily "short" brown and black with paperclip to send it to usb host mode.

So after I get this all done, I test -- non-host mode works great. Now, I insert the paperclip and test using my keyboard/mouse (which works fine with a regular OTG adapter) and bingo -- nothing! Boo!

I then get out my multitester and discover that the red and white wires/pins are reversed on the OTG cable. Can anyone else confirm this? From what I have read online, it does not appear to be, but since I stripped everything apart, I can't test unless I am willing to sacrifice my one remaining OTG adapter.

Thanks,
CY

I have an extra dock and was going to try something like this today. My plan, which is somewhat similar to yours is this.

I'm going to strip the 6 wires on the inside and connect them to a stripped USB cable as follows:

Red to Red
White to White
Green to Green

But here is my question or problem

On the Dock there seems to be 6 cables -- Red(Pin 1?), White(Pin 2?), Green(Pin 3?), Black(Pin 5?), Brown(PIn ??) and Yellow(Pin ??).

I know or think I have to short the Black cable (Pin 5) with either the Brown or Yellow, (Or Both ??) to make it an OTG cable.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does anyone know which one(s) are the correct wires to short with the Black Wire (Pin 5)

To the OP -- Are you sure its the brown wire and not the yellow wire or both you need to short?

This method seems a bit easier to me since I would not have to take apart a micro usb plug and sodder the wires back in place.
