T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Moisture Detected In your Charging Port (S8+)

so I have had this issue for about 2 weeks. the first time....it wouldn't charge. so I waited 3 hours and it still wouldn't charge. I turned my phone off and turned it back on and it worked fine. couple of days later it did the same thing....and then again. then yesterday....it restarted my phone at least 10 times and it was still saying moisture detected. MY PHONE HAS NEVER GOTTEN WET!! I googled and ever since the last mandatory update....alot of ppl are having this issue. so today....again...I can't charge my phone. i called tmobile and they are replacing my phone. i checked the little card inside the SIM card slot and it does NOT show water damage so it is a SYSTEM ISSUE!!! come on samsung!!! first the NOTE 7 issue....now this?! so tomorrow I'm getting a brand new phone being sent to the store and lets see what happens with this cause now I can only use my wireless charger which takes HOURS to fully charge my phone!!!!

Ever since the last update I have been getting the message "Moisture Detected in your charging port...please dry to charge" whenever I try to charge. It has happened 3 or 4 times and I have no moisture what so ever. I am able to reboot the phone and then most of the time I can charge. A couple of times it takes a couple of reboots. Has anyone else experienced this issue and is there a fix?
Happen to me and I blew into the charging port about 7 to 10 hard times and it totally went away. Not sure if I had moisture as I had recently just wet installed a screen protector but blowing really hard directly into the port seemed to resolve my issue. I'd definitely give that a try but do it time after time for a few minutes to make sure what ever is tripping it is blown out.

I had the moisture in the charging port message even though the port had not been near moisture at all. Could not get rid of it no matter what I tried ( used hairdryer, kitchen roll the lot) but to no avail... hour after hour passed....but still the moisture in the port message.

I tried searching to see if anyone had suffered the same issues and indeed a number of people had!!

The fix that worked was

1. plug in your s8 to the charger (you will be notified that there is moisture detected)

2. restart your s8 (make sure not to remove the charging cable)

3. *make sure it shows how long until full charge.

4. You have by successfully by passed the moisture error.

Yup, quite a few folks are seeing this - myself included. Seems that the Samsung method is to send the phone in to service. Thought this was firmware/software related - and this was confirmed a couple of nights ago. I also have a WiFi Tab S3 that took a system update - right after that, the TABLET was displaying the "moisture in port" error and would not charge.

There's a thread out on the Samsung community forum at https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...s8-moisture-detected-won-t-go-away/m-p/142572 that speaks to the problem. Just hoping that Sammy realizes this and quietly sends a fix OTA - I do wirelessly charge the phone, but the problem makes Android Auto useless.

Hi rdickert,

sorry might be just me but im a bit confused. Is it a firmware software issue? Who confirmed it? I may of misunderstood.

It's just you later went on to say "Just hoping that Sammy realizes this and quietly sends a fix"

It's just I had the same problem and the fix I posted (see in this thread) worked for me and i have not had the problem since but in the back of my mind I was thinking it could be a hardware issue.

Obviously if it is just a sofware/firmware issue I don't want to send my phone back to a Samsung if it can be sorted with an update. I'm unsure of what to do now.

Thanks

Hi Abbey :) This is just me at this point, but since I started getting the exact same error message on my Tab S3 immediately after applying an OTA update - I have to think this is not a hardware issue. Why would it hit two different devices and the timing is suspect. Seriously, as soon as the tablet re-started after the update, I had the little water drop and error message.

When I chatted with Samsung, they first wanted me to send both devices in for service - this didn't make sense to me - and after pushing the issue a bit, the rep said that it was probably fixable with an update - not sure at this point, but I'm not sending my stuff in if I don't need to - still in waiting mode here.

I had to do this on my Edge last year, phone was in my pocket and it was drizzling, walked to the car and took a few minutes to get a munchkin into the car seat. Was using the At&t car charger, I just turned it off and let it charge fully before turning it on.

I had the same issue, mine progresses to the point where it would not take a charge and kept saying usb connected and then usb disconnected until the phone battery died. When plugging the phone into the original cable and charger I noticed the battery was not charging. When I went to take the plug out it was so hot I burned my fingers. DO NOT LET IT CHARGE UNATENDED. I took the phone to the T-Mobile store and had to pay the warranty fee to have the phone replaced. Aggravated I have to pay to fix their mistake. Needless to say I did not let the new phone update

Hey Rdickert ☺

Thanks for getting back to me, that's exactly what I thought initially, just a bug and can be sorted out with an update. .... but was speaking to someone on another forum (ofcourse not as good a
forum as this one ??????) and they got the advise to send it into Samsung, so I was starting to doubt myself but thanks to you, I'm more convinced that it is just a bug. I agree, two devices... at the same time....

Thanks for clearing that up, appreciated and feel a bit better, was thinking I would have to book some counselling sessions to get me through being without my beloved S8 Plus ??????.... upsets me just talking about it...

Well If I hear anything else I will post it in here ☺ would be really grateful if you could just put a wee post in here if you see or hear anything ☺

Thanks again and take care.

I definitely will and please do the same if you hear anything. I can wireless charge but I really miss my Android Auto :)

Just wondering - has anyone who has encountered this tried a factory reset? Before I try that I would like to see if it would be a waste of time. If not, I can be the guinea pig

OK so I can confirm - factory reset doesn't do it...

Oh...... I could of told you that ??????

Only joking hehe, i couldn't of told you if it would work or not ... ahhh shame it didn't work, as regards to the issue I will absolutely post here if I hear or see anything regarding this issue.

Hopefully it will be solved soon.

It just happened to me. I was walking around cutting my grass and it warned me about water when I took my phone out. Looks like they lowered the threshold on the sensor. I just got the update today. I usually leave my phone in the bathroom while showering and have never seen this error. Probably will trip it all the time now.

I have the same issue, I have to use wireless charging majority of time which is a pain when driving, it doesn't seem like there is a quick fix, I've tried blow drying it and leaving it in sun, nothing worked

I finally got this sorted - but I am still really not sure what the root cause was. As a reminder, I started getting this error message on my S8+. and after taking a firmware update, my tablet started doing the same thing (Tab S3 WiFi). I thought that this might be a strong indicator that the problem was software/firmware related. Went through a couple of factory resets with no success.

I have the Samsung extended warranty, so I finally gave in and submitted a claim. Since it was not physical damage, no deductible and no shipping charge - and incredibly, after opening the claim on Thursday afternoon, I had the replacement in my hands by 3:00 PM on Friday (impressed with this level of service).

OK, now that the background is out of the way - the new phone has absolutely no problems at all with the moisture in port error - the device is working 100% perfectly.

Now onto the tablet - I noticed that the lower half of the tablet was getting rather warm while charging. I had also used this charger a few times with the old phone as well. I replaced the charger and cable for the tablet, and not only is it charging cool again, the error message has not reoccurred.

Not sure what the heck the root cause was, but it does like that there may be a group of S8/S8+ devices out there with defective moisture sensors. You mileage may vary of course, but just wanted to share.

I've seen the message a few times. But, isn't the phone water proof? Can't you submerge it in water? I don't do any of this, but if that's possible, then that message seems kind of pointless where of course you would get the message.

The phone does have a level of water resistance, and if there is moisture in the USB port, the message is valid and helps to protect the phone. The problem some of us are seeing is that the message appears randomly - even when the device has been nowhere near water - and prevents wired charging/VR usage/Android Auto, etc

Same problem here, I'm on 20% battery charge now and I couldn't get rid of this heckle neither with home nor car chargers. What a pain in the back!

Switch off phone. Switch on phone, as soon as the word SAMSUNG starts to appear insert charger. Phone should now charge.......it WON'T get rid of the error message but at least the phone charges.

Make sure you check the charging port after 10 minutes to see if it is getting to hot. Mine was so hot it burned my fingers and sent it for warranty. New one is now getting the message as well
