Moto 360 Buying a 3rd party metal band?

I'd recommend the pebble steel band hands down

Posted via Nexus 7 2013 or verizon Galaxy S5 or maybe one day through my moto 360

be careful for moto band have a round cutout to account for the pin being slightly behind the face and with out the relief cutout some people have had an issue witht eh back of the moto 360 cracking. just a head s up form what i have read.

you can buy a spring popper on amazon for $5 which is what the jewelers use. and the cutout seems very necessary for the band inserts slightly into the wactch which meand there is a slight lip of the bottom round side over the band and for those with small wrist a band with no cutout will put pressure on the bottom face of the watch and people have been experience craicked bottom faces of the moto 360 with wrond bands.

leather ones work fine but metal one be carefull.

I just wanted to contribute my experience to the thread.

I have metal deployment bands and buckle straps on other watches I wear depending on my needs. I wanted a metal band that was more classic/retro in appearance to combine with the 360 round look. Despite the tech I thought it would be a nice combination for my needs.

I looked at the prior discussions about finding a fit. These are my actual observations and not as much micrometer measurements. First the 22mm is very accurate both in measurement and band fit. The thickness of the stock band, mine was grey was 4.0 plus or minus .05 at the spring pin. It is important to realize that bands may have different thickness between watch and buckle end. Especially leather. I have found this before on my other watches.

Now for the observation. I spent about 5 years in HS and College working at a jewelry store and have changed hundreds of bands and adjusted sizing on many. What I found to be the challenge on the 360 was not as much the depth, once the 4.0 mm selected it was the curvature of the housing under the "Lip" created by their design. So the straight pin and straight band must not be to thick to fit the spacing from the hole and the rounded housing (toward the end of band or radius from spring pin). I have a micrometer and just could not find a way to get a measurement to provide. I also found that the brushed stainless is a match, sandblasted finish shows darker but could also be satisfactory for some. This is my observation buyer choice.

If you look at the leather band it has a cut out in the middle. Motorola also provides a thinner spring pin. I had to use the original spring pin as the band came with one that is slightly larger, more like my other watches and it did not allow the links to fit into the space between chassis and hole for the pin. Once I did that it was just a little finesse to get lined up and then all was good.

Summarizing what to look for: My opinions and actual observations. 22 MM (of course), 4.00 MM thickness max, minimal depth between line past the center line of spring pin. My opinion is less than 2 mm on measurement as close as I can get. Or experiment with bands that have a "Curve" at the end to allow for the tight clearance while still meeting other parameters.

I purchased the band on line lots of price ranges and spent more for one that had features that I knew would benefit my fitting needs. It also provided a more "Retro" look I desired. Strapcode is the company that I used. The can be found by using the .com ending on their name. Quality packaging to prevent scratches, smoothness of the links and operation of the clasp are all very good.

Shipped from China but arrived in less than a week along with a strap tool, mine disappeared in the move but will probably show up now that I bought another. Watch is very comfortable and the additional weight is good for me and also the ability to stand small amounts of water is great. Like what happens when you wash your hands. The stock band had already spotted in a couple of places.

I hope this information helps.

I bought the exact strap you have and it will not fit. any ideas? brought it to a jewelwer as well. nothing, its too big to get the pin to sit all the way back

Here's the seller I bought from on ebay

Again, for those that aren't bringing to a jeweler or don't want to DIY, I suggest the 20mm.

22mm is exact fit to opening, but difficult to install with exact fitment.

Could you give an update on this band? How is it holding up, and is it causing any cracking?

I lost some weight and had issues with removing links, so I ended up getting a new band, that also had the cutout for the 360. Fits just as good and same style, but no modification needed. Should be able to find it searching for moto 360 metal band on amazon or ebay

I just filed a divot into a "regular" 22mm "Watchadoo" band/bracelet to accommodate MOTO's little nub inside. Worked perfectly, and its first link is designed so that it clears the plastic bottom, and poses no risk of cracking anything. It's also solid, instead of rolled, stamped steel like on the cheaper ones. Saved me a grip, since I prefer the quick-release of a bracelet, since it needs to come off frequently to charge (I cheaped out and originally got the black leather strap).

I don't like the huge gap near the case of the OEM Motorola offerings, shown in this picture:

No gaps here, and no cracking risks on the bottom:

So after reading this I decided to try out the black Pebble meal strap from Amazon and it arrived today. Fairly quick job to replace the leather strap for the metal one however I think the width of the metal strap is a veeeery close fit to the watch recess. So close that ne end of the strap fits quite well however the other end could probably do with a few thou' being ground off the strap. As it is, one end wiggles a little bit whereas the other end has no sideways movement in it at all.

I'm a little bit disappointed that the strap finish isn't a closer match with the watch body. I don't think prongs on the watch are touching the strap at all but I could see a potential issue with the strap interfering with the base of the watch. I think this would only be an issue with rough handling though.

I wanted to be able to use any 3rd party watch band, metal or not, so I ended up ordering the adapter from SteelConnect.co - http://www.steelconnect.co/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=SCM225-BS. 50 bucks, which is insane for a pair of tiny metal clips, but they're doing exactly what I hoped they would - I can attach any 22mm band I want, including the Pebble Steel band. Here are a few pics of 3rd party bands I've bought to switch out on my Moto 360 (which using the adapter and a watch tool is pretty simple and quick)...

Pic 1: All four bands I have now - Pebble Steel (Amazon), water-resistant leather band (Walmart), silicone/rubber band (Amazon), and the black leather band that came with the 360.

I have had the same favorable experience with the Steel Connect adapters... Not the cheapest things on the world, but they work beautifully IMO.

My review of them over on sister site, Connectedly HERE.
