Moto making Nexus 5

That was the #1 factor that killed the N4 for me (though, being on VZW helped) Hopefully if Verizon ever gets another Nexus, it isn't one from LG.

Why? Unless there's some brand loyalty you have, there's no reason to not like a phone because of the manufacturer. In fact, the N4 showed how good of a manufacturer LG is, and it seems like LG is up there with HTC and others as far as phone quality.

Agreed. I really like the LG G2, the only thing I wish they will improve is their logo placement. The front bottom logo on the LG G2 looks really poor IMO, it kills the sleek look of the device. The Nexus device will resolve that.

Brand loyalty is ridiculous. I admit that I was not too high on LG about a year ago but they have turned around. Nexus 4 is the best LG phone to date. I'll definitely get the next Nexus......whether its LG or another MFR. At the end of the day, its a Nexus.

I've seen way too many DOA and defective LG phones over the years. I have 0 faith in the quality of their products.

Except the Optimus G, Nexus 4, Optimus G Pro, G2, and all other recent LG phones contradict that. Companies can change, you know.

Have the Nexus devices by other manufacturers been any more reliable than the Nexus 4? I had a Samsung Nexus S 4G and it was basically a brick one year after I got it. People were pretty upset with the Nexus 7 by Asus too. Unless you're holding out for an Apple Nexus...? I don't think anyone has done a better job with a Nexus device than LG.

Sure, they can change. Just doesn't happen too often.

Besides the battery, my Galaxy Nexus was just fine as devices go. Never really had a complaint till it took a swim. As for companies who I expect could easily make a better Nexus than LG, Motorola, Sony, and HTC all spring to mind.

Seeing that this thread has been revived, I'd still like to know what makes you think this is true. I don't remember any official Google statement saying that they find 5" phones distasteful.

Motorola makes it true. Read up on the statements of Motorola's executive team, all of which came from Google. They are the ones pushing the 'right size' screen.

Also look at the new nexus leaks. Yes, it has a larger screen. But it has one in a body the same size as the nexus 4.

At the same time, the nexus 7 is the ONLY product in Google's entire portfolio that follows this model, so you cannot blindly assume that this is going to be the Standard for every other product. Especially seeing that no other nexus phone has followed this model.

I personally give it a 50/50 chance between nexus 4 or nexus 5 with the small hope that it might just be "nexus". But I don't know, and neither do you. So check your absolute tone.

The nexus 7 is the only new successor product introduced after the naming scheme was established. The fact that Google didn't change the name tells you all you need to know about their intentions.

But you said that Google would stick with a 4.7" screen, not that they would stick with a ~130x68mm phone size. And the N5 will have a 4.96" screen.

But you also insisted that the naming scheme was based on the screen size, and if you're correct, then it will be called the N5 because, for all intents and purposes, a 4.96" screen is a 5" screen (example: GS4, 4.99" screen).

Yet there's still no reason to assume the phone line will follow the tablet line's naming scheme.

This is still just a guessing game for all of us.

Yes there's no way to know but fun to speculate. A week ago if you said the next Android would be named KitKat most would have disagreed saying Google doesn't use commercial brand names.

There's no reason to assume it won't, while the nexus 7 provides evidence that it will.

Frankly, prior to the unveiling to the G2, the kind of technology necessary to fit a 5 inch screen in this small a body wasn't possible. But the point still stands regardless. Google does not like big phones.

I've never said any such thing.

Apologies then; I mixed you up with the others who say it'll be called the Nexus 4 (2013) for that reason.
But still, if you're saying it'll be called the N4 2013, isn't that implying that it'll be based on screen size? After all, The N7 successor kept its predecessor's name only because of its screen size; if it had, say, and 8" screen, it would have been called the Nexus 8. So if you're saying Google will follow the pattern they had with the N7, then they would obviously name the new Nexus phone for the same reason that they named the N4. This reason would be either because of the generation (4th gen Nexus phone) or screen size (4.7" screen). If you say that the new Nexus would be called the Nexus 4 (2013), that would obviously be based on screen size (the first reason wouldn't make sense as it would be the 5th Nexus phone). So if the next Nexus phone has a 5" screen, as it seems to have, then there would be no reason to call it the Nexus 4 (2013).
