Just recently when Google Android Developers asked about the change to Kit Kat they admit that Key Lime Pie was original name.

But now we are just splitting hairs.

A nexus is a NExus no matter who the manufacturer is. when I pick up a nexus device I don't look at it and say it's the Asus Nexus 7 or the LG NExus 4, OR the HTC NEXUS ONE. I call it a google nexus. Google has standards. It will be great no matter who makes it. It's google.

The nexus 7 is the only new successor product introduced after the naming scheme was established. The fact that Google didn't change the name tells you all you need to know about their intentions.
