Moto voice fails to send texts Sept 2017

I recently (in the last week or two) started having an issue where when I say my launch phrase (Doctor Theopolis) and it asks how it can help I say send a text. It brings up the dialog but before it asks who do you want to text, it goes all white and then at the bottom I can see faintly can't reach Google. I tried disabling voice commands and I can send texts with OK Google. All my other moto voice commands work fine though. I prefer the moto voice to Google assistant because it works with the screen off (also I like the custom launch phrase)
