Moto X (2014) —*Show off your design!

I have the Walnut, black front, dark gray trim and the back is starting to lift. So I am getting an exchange, probably just going to go with plastic because I have noticed the same as others where the trim and the wood do not meet as seamlessly as the plastic backs and it annoys me. However, my question is the trim pieces on the front of the phone. My dark gray trim pieces are sharp like a file with little lines engraved in them, however my buddy who got the blue trim has smooth trim pieces on the front of his phone. Does anyone know if this is due to the color? Meaning are certain colors smooth and certain colors not? Does anyone have the dark gray trim that is smooth?

I have the purple back with purple trim, and my trim pieces on the front are smooth. I never really thought to check it until now, though.

The speculation is that early production units were ridged but complaints about ear discomfort lead to a design change. However, some users are still reporting that they received ridged models. It's possible certain assembly areas are using up old inventory before moving to the new one. Otherwise, we have no definite answer as of yet.

Very interesting! I ordered my 2014 Moto X the week they were available, so I consider mine one of the early models, but I definitely do not have the ridged accents.

I got my moto x from Moto Maker using the cyber Monday promo code. Dec, 2nd 2014 was the date of order. My trim color is Metallic Dark Gray and I have the rigid speaker grills.

It's interesting seeing the smooth ones because I thought all of them were like mine. Obviously there was a design change for one reason PR another. Another point I would like to note is that even though I have the metallic dark gray trim the speaker grills change to silver depending on the angle you look at the phone. Maybe that's the reason they changed to smooth?

I ordered my silver metallic trim December 27 and I too got raised speaker grills. I don't see a problem with them though. They are comfortable to the ear and look quite nice.

I've seen several people asking about the chalk back. I've had my Moto X for about a month and a half and it still looks as white as it was new right out of the box. No stains or discoloration.

Slate back, royal blue accents, no custom boot screen, no custom engraving.

I was thinking about doing something more wild like a wood or red back with an engraving, but I eventually decided to go with the more conservative look.

I ordered a blue Hula case that I think will go perfectly with the back and blue accents I chose:
